In a rare, real-news acknowledgment by the liberal CBS news program “Face the Nation,” panelists on Sunday conceded that a respected poll shows Americans believe there are “valid reasons to investigate Joe Biden and his son for their behavior in Ukraine.”

The USA Today/Ipsos poll surveyed 1006 adults last week, and despite leftist claims that there is no basis for a corruption investigation of the Bidens, popular opinion strongly contrasts with that view.

USA Today reported:

By 2 to 1, 42%-21%, those polled say there are valid reasons to look at the behavior of Joe and Hunter Biden in Ukraine. Even 1 in 4 Democrats say an investigation would be legitimate; two-thirds of Republicans agree. Joe Biden was the Obama administration’s point person on Ukraine; his son pursued lucrative business arrangements there.

“Face the Nation” moderator Margaret Brennan asked: “What does this mean for the 2020 race? I mean, you have Joe Biden out there with the Washington Post op-ed,” referencing his Saturday “not me” editorial. “But he hasn’t sat and really answered questions to clear the air on this.”

Biden has yet to sit and answer questions about Ukraine, Burisma Holdings and his recorded boasts about bullying Ukraine into firing the prosecutor looking into his and his son Hunter’s alleged quid pro quo involvement with the shady company.

“Is it going to hurt him?” Brennan asked USA Today’s Washington bureau chief Susan Page.

“Yes, it’s — it’s going to hurt him,” Page said. “It’s hurting him already, fairly or not. You know, we should start any discussion into this by saying there’s no evidence that Joe Biden did anything illegal or anything improper. That said, on this show, we saw a commercial paid for by the Trump campaign making the case against Biden.”

“We had a USA Today/Ipsos poll this week that showed that by two-to-one, by forty-two to twenty-one percent, Americans say it would be legitimate — there are valid reasons to investigate Biden’s behavior when it came to Ukraine,” Page added.

Then slipping into the obliging role of progressive public relations practitioner, Page offered: “You know, the, the behavior was not illegal. It’s not unusual for family members to try to cash in on famous or powerful relatives. It is something that Americans do not like. It is unseemly. And that is a question that Joe Biden is going to have to answer moving forward.”

The left’s media proponents are clearly moving away from denying that the Bidens did anything untoward and instead framing the Biden situation as being distasteful but legal. The USA Today poll report similarly revealed …

A broad bipartisan consensus, including more than 6 in 10 Republicans and Democrats, that the children of senior officials should be prohibited from benefiting from their family relationships.

While often not illegal, the perception of self-dealing and conflicts of interest have long fueled voter distrust of government and its leaders.
