New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is catching heat over a lackluster response to a mass killing in Chinatown by a Dominican Republic native with a history of violent behavior.
Four vagrants were killed when Rodriguez “Randy” Santo, 24, bashed their heads in with a large metal pipe as they slept, the New York Post reported. Santo, who is also homeless, was stalking his victims and hit five people. One victim survived and was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
“They were sleeping. They never saw it coming,” one source told The Post. “He just walked up to them and pummeled them.”
The source added that “it looked like he [Santo] was looking for more victims.” When police arrived on the scene, Santos had the blood-streaked heavy metal bar slung over his shoulder like a baseball bat.
Mayor de Blasio took to Twitter on Saturday to respond.
“We’re stunned and horrified by this senseless act of violence against the most vulnerable members of our community,” he tweeted. “It flies in the face of the values of our city. We’re keeping the victims and their loved ones in our hearts.”

Police say Santos has been arrested 14 times and had a history of violent, random attacks. In one such attack, he bit a man in the chest at a Manhattan store, The Post reported.
The photograph below is from Santos’ Facebook page:
The incident calls to mind violence seen in New York City in the 1970s and social media users ripped into de Blasio, who has been an absentee mayor for these past few months as he campaigned to be the 2020 Democratic Party presidential nominee.
The radially left mayor ended his long shot campaign a few weeks back after gaining no traction in a crowded field.
The Post reported that Chinatown has become overrun with vagrants, many of them menacing.
“Something is going on, something is just in the air and there are just a lot more mentally unstable people around. There are a lot more crazies around,” a local restaurant manager said.
It would appear that de Blasio’s progressive views on governing and policing aren’t panning out too well in the Big Apple. Of course, there aren’t many large, Democrat-run cities in America that can claim success.
Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
It flies on the face of your “safest big city in America” bullshit statements.

Keeping victims in your heart doesn’t seem to be working. Can we go back to letting the police do their jobs and PREVENT crimes from happening BEFORE they take place? Funny how you mock the thoughts and prayers after mass shootings, but do the exact same thing after crime in NYC.

And the killer is a 24 year old career criminal, with 14 prior arrests (as an adult). Yet he’s out on the streets and now 4 men are dead and another in the hospital.
All because of the go-easy-on-criminals policies you push.

You created this dangerous environment but not letting the police do their job. You are a disgraced mayor who has brought nyc to its knees in so many ways. #impeachdeblasio

And here I thought this was part of your policy to “eradicate” homelessness in NYC.

In NYC, population 8.5 million, nearly one in 121 New Yorkers is homeless, according to the Bowery Mission. The Coalition for the Homeless put the number of homeless people in the city’s shelter system in August at 61,674, including 14,806 families with 21,802 children.

Your lack of respect for the law is why more and more horrific crimes are occuring in this once great city #DiblasioGotToGo

Congratulations, another violent act that proves this city isn’t safe and crime is going up! You can play with the numbers but you can’t hide the body count! Thanks Bill for destroying our city!

Your sincerity is nothing but trash. Resign because you and your so called aides destroyed this city.
