Dem Rep Adam Schiff has found himself firmly in Republican crosshairs over his suspicious role in the whistleblower complaint at the heart of an impeachment inquiry of President Trump.
Questions have been rising over what and when House Intelligence Committee Chairman Schiff knew about the complaint and its origins.
On Wednesday, the New York Times added fuel to the fire and dropped a bomb with the piece: “Schiff got Early Account of Accusations as Whistle-Blower’s Concerns Grew.”
The headline matched what many Republicans already suspected due to numerous inconsistencies by Schiff including parroting information that perfectly matched the complaint before it was released.
“Chairman Adam Schiff just got caught orchestrating with the whistleblower before the complaint was ever filed. Democrats have rigged this process from the start,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy tweeted Wednesday linking the to Times article.

Matthew Rosenberg, the co-author of the article, “fact-checked” McCarthy stating that’s not what the piece stated, despite the headline claiming otherwise.
“Nope. Not what the NYT reported. The whistleblower went to an intel committee staffer with a vague account of the complaint, and was told to file through proper channels,” Rosenberg tweeted in response.
As BPR reported on Wednesday, The New York Times reported that before the CIA officer filed his whistleblower complaint, a House Intelligence Committee aide was alerted to some of the details, which eventually found their way to Schiff.
His spokesman Patrick Boland denied any collusion with the whistleblower.
“Like other whistleblowers have done before and since under Republican and Democratic-controlled committees, the whistleblower contacted the committee for guidance on how to report possible wrongdoing within the jurisdiction of the intelligence community,” Boland said Wednesday in response to the article.
“At no point did the committee review or receive the complaint in advance.”
Despite mounting evidence that the whistleblower complaint claiming Trump held an illegal phone call with Ukraine President Zelensky may have been orchestrated with the help of influential anti-Trump, “deep state” actors, Schiff has been doubling down on Ukrainian conspiracy theories.
As Attorney General William Barr is digging into the origins of the debunked Russian collusion conspiracy that launched the failed Mueller probe, Republicans are digging into the latest witchhunt involving Ukraine.
But, Democrats and their media cohorts claimed the New York Times piece doesn’t further incriminate Schiff. Interestingly, Boland’s response to McCarthy sparked criticism from all sides:

This was no accident, this is a pattern of what the New York Times has a history of doing. Hillary’s Emails, Biden Ukraine and now this.

Only, the New York Times article didn’t thrust Schiff into the middle of the controversy. He was already in the crosshairs for suspicious behavior, including the fabrication of a transcript between Trump and Zelensky to make Trump look guilty of strongarming a foreign leader into digging dirt on rival Dem presidential candidate Joe Biden.
While Republicans and McCarthy ran with the story, liberals bashed the Times for the sloppy headline.
Commenting about the whole controversy, The Federalist’s Mollie Hemmingway, had another take: “The story was put out to get ahead of what are clearly terrible facts for Schiff and the Left, and they’re furious that people aren’t going along with their bulls*** spin.”
