In a lengthy tweet storm on Saturday night, President Donald Trump reminded congressional Democrats that former witch hunts and impeachments have all “ended in ashes.”
“The conversation with the new and very good Ukraine President, who told the Fake News, at the United Nations, that HE WAS NOT PRESSURED BY ME IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, should by and of itself bring an end to the new and most recent Witch Hunt. Others ended in ashes!” the president wrote.
The tweet storm referenced the now-infamous phone call between him and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that occurred over the summer.
The call came to the public’s attention after a partisan whistleblower filed a complaint alleging that during the call, the president had pressured Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden’s alleged corruption.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi formally launched an impeachment inquiry against the president last week over the whistleblower’s claims. Then two days after Pelosi launched the inquiry, House Intelligence Committee chair Rep. Adam Schiff dragged Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire in front of Congress to harangue him over his handling of the episode.
Though findings from both the hearing and the Trump administration’s release of related documents — including a copy of the partisan whistleblower’s complaint, as well as a transcript of Trump’s phone call with Zelensky — have debunked the allegations against him, Democrats have insisted otherwise.

How do you impeach a President who has created the greatest Economy in the history of our Country, entirely rebuilt our Military into the most powerful it has ever been, Cut Record Taxes & Regulations, fixed the VA & gotten Choice for our Vets (after 45 years), & so much more?…

….The conversation with the new and very good Ukraine President, who told the Fake News, at the United Nations, that HE WAS NOT PRESSURED BY ME IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, should by and of itself bring an end to the new and most recent Witch Hunt. Others ended in ashes!

The Whistleblower’s complaint is completely different and at odds from my actual conversation with the new President of Ukraine. The so-called “Whistleblower” knew practically NOTHING in that those ridiculous charges were far more dramatic & wrong, just like Liddle’ Adam Schiff..
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 28, 2019
….fraudulently and illegally inserted his made up & twisted words into my call with the Ukrainian President to make it look like I did something very wrong. He then boldly read those words to Congress and millions of people, defaming & libeling me. He must resign from Congress!

The tempest began with a simple question that he posted at 6:00 p.m.
“How do you impeach a President who has created the greatest Economy in the history of our Country, entirely rebuilt our Military into the most powerful it has ever been, Cut Record Taxes & Regulations, fixed the VA & gotten Choice for our Vets (after 45 years), & so much more?” he wrote.
In the tweets that followed, he debunked all of the Democrats’ whistleblower-related talking points against him, including the false claim that he’d pressured Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden. The transcript of the phone call proves otherwise, as does the fact that the Ukrainian president has said in his own words that Trump did not pressure him.
Trump also demanded the resignation of House Intelligence Committee chair Rep. Adam Schiff for having read an entirely fictitious, made-up transcript of the phone call to Congress.
Saturday wasn’t the first time that the president had called for the congressman’s resignation. In tweets posted early Friday morning, he did the same:
Rep. Adam Schiff fraudulently read to Congress, with millions of people watching, a version of my conversation with the President of Ukraine that doesn’t exist. He was supposedly reading the exact transcribed version of the call, but he completely changed the words to make it…
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 27, 2019
…sound horrible, and me sound guilty. HE WAS DESPERATE AND HE GOT CAUGHT. Adam Schiff therefore lied to Congress and attempted to defraud the American Public. He has been doing this for two years. I am calling for him to immediately resign from Congress based on this fraud!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 27, 2019
Rep. Adam Schiff totally made up my conversation with Ukraine President and read it to Congress and Millions. He must resign and be investigated. He has been doing this for two years. He is a sick man!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 27, 2019
Following the publication of these tweets, House Freedom Chair Rep. Andy Biggs introduced a resolution later that afternoon to censure Schiff.
“During yesterday’s hearing, Chairman Schiff’s opening statement included a blatantly false retelling of President Trump’s conversation with the Ukrainian president. Democrats previously initiated an impeachment inquiry, which leads to one of the most serious, constitutional duties of Members of Congress: removal of the President of the United States,” Biggs said in a statement.
“Through this process, if the President has committed high crimes or misdemeanors, Congress may overturn the election of the President and the will of the American people,” the statement continued. “It is therefore inexcusable to toy with the process and mislead the American public with such a statement.”
