Fox News anchor Chris Wallace went against the grain on Friday, blasting Trump and his “defenders” for trying to make “nothing out of something” over the Ukraine bruhaha.
Wallace called arguments made by Trump’s supporters “astonishing” and “deeply misleading.”
“America’s Newsroom” anchor Sandra Smith pushed back, but Wallace wasn’t having it.

“The spinning that has been done by the president’s defenders in the last 24 hours since this very damaging whistleblower complaint came out,” Wallace said, “the spinning is not surprising, but I think it is astonishing and deeply misleading.”
Wallace argued that the whistleblower complaint contained damning allegations about Trump’s conduct with Ukraine President Zelensky, and claimed it lined up exactly with the transcript of the call between the two leaders.
Both the transcript of the call and the whistleblower complaint have been made public. If they are so damaging to Trump, why has the media and Democrats turned themselves into pretzels to cover the story, and make it look worse for the president?
Smith pointed to “major inconsistencies” between the reports and reiterated what Trump and his supporters maintain: there was no “quid pro quo” in the transcript as Dems alleged.
“You don’t think dirt on the vice president and his son’s activities would be of value to a president seeking reelection?” Wallace asked.
He then went on to insist that there is meat on the bones of the whistleblower’s allegations.
“What is clear from reading the complaint is that it is a serious allegation,” Wallace said. “A lot of it has proven to be borne out already. The whistleblower lays out a blueprint for talking to various officials in the White House, various officials in the State Department. And to dismiss this as a political hack seems to me to be an effort by the president’s defenders to make nothing out of something. And there is something here.”
“For all of the efforts of a lot of people defending the president to defend this as nothing,” he added. “This isn’t nothing. This is something.”
Wallace joined Dems Adam Schiff and Elijah Cummings when he added that Trump’s hard-hitting condemnation of the whistleblower was “deeply troubling.”

Wallace’s slam against Trump and his “defenders” took social media by storm. Since he’s on Fox News, many viewers of the clip didn’t see it coming, and Fox’s competition ate it up.
Chris Wallace is trending because he said something truth on Fox News about how Trump defenders are trying to make "nothing out of something." And a Fox person telling the truth is, legitimately, national news.

Lead CNN reporter Oliver Darcy couldn’t be happier with Wallace:
On Fox, Chris Wallace says, "The spinning that has been done by the president's defenders over the last 24 hours … it is astonishing and deeply misleading."
Soo… Wallace is saying many of his colleagues are behaving in an "astonishing" and "deeply misleading" manner, yes?

And rabid anti-Trumper Joe Scarborough was at the ready:

But, again, if the transcript and complaint was so damning for Trump, why did Adam Schiff feel the need to lie, on live television, and put fake words in Trump’s mouth to describe the transcript during an intel hearing on Thursday?
And while there have been plenty of holes poked in the complaint, conservative commentator host Ben Shapiro (who’s no huge fan of Trump) has been busy analyzing and obliterating the timeline Dems have set up to make it look like Trump was threatening to withhold military aid to Ukraine.
He even questioned if Schiff was in on it from the get-go:
That makes this sound more like the whistleblower may have been working with Schiff BEFORE the process had played out legally, and raises serious questions about leaks from the whistleblower or someone else in the intelligence community to Schiff.
