It isn’t so much that the left has effectively shut down opposing speech on college campuses, it’s that the country so readily accepts this as tolerable behavior.
Still, when incidents like what was seen recently at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, occur, it grates on the nerve given that this nation was founded first and foremost on free speech.
By and large, Republicans have ceded education to the left and college campuses are little more than liberal indoctrination centers, but groups like Turning Point USA are trying to gain back ground for conservative-minded students. TPUSA stands on the front lines, going toe-to-toe with the intolerant left, who often feel emboldened to take property that doesn’t belong to them and even get physical with those who may share a different point of view.
TPUSA northeast regional manager Taylor Cisinski shared videos on social media of what they are up against.
In one video, a student is captured running with a stolen TPUSA sign that read, “Free Speech Has No Zone in America.”
The student is in poor shape and doesn’t get too far before running out of breath and down-scaling his getaway to a brisk walk.
“These leftists may be crazed but they can’t run with me!” Cisinski boasts in the caption.

“Can I have my sign back?” a very polite Cisinski can be heard asking the student running with the stolen sign.
“If it was a socialist table, I wouldn’t take their stuff,” he further stated.
In a second video, Cisinski is actually assaulted by a student who tries to prevent him from tracking down another student who had taken some posters.
“Do not touch me,” he tells the heavy-set male, who is seen on camera striking at Cisinski with his hands.
Determined to get his property back, he chased down the other student who was beating a hasty getaway.
“Can I have my posters back?” Cisinski asked, once he caught up to what looked to be a young girl. “That’s pretty fascist, taking people’s stuff, shutting down their free speech.”
Once she realized Cisinski was recording the encounter, the student sarcastically said, “Oh sh*t! Oh my God, I’ve always wanted to be in one of these.”
If her appearance didn’t already tip viewers off, it was clear that she could not have cared less that she was being recorded while stealing property that didn’t belong to her.
“Why do you think it’s okay to take people’s stuff? Can I have those back?” Cisinski pressed. “If it was a socialist table that I disagreed with, I wouldn’t go and be rude and take their stuff.”
The student responded by asking the TPUSA activist if he had the right to be on campus.
“Yeah, we do,” Cisinski responded. “We paid for that table. We went up to the office. Now can I please have my stuff back?”
“Do you have a permit?” the girl then asked.
Cisinski quickly answered, “Yes.”
“Oh, somebody told me you didn’t have a permit,” she replied, before giving Cisinski back his posters.
…as if it was her responsibility to enforce the school’s policies on-campus activities.

Typical of most liberals, when the student realized that he wasn’t going to relent, she folded like a cheap lawn chair.
In an interview with Breitbart News, Cisinski said UMBC administrators told TPUSA activists the previous week that they needed permission from the school.
“We were told that a group of students put a bounty out on our materials that we were not giving away,” Cisinski said. “Throughout the day, we had multiple students coming up and stealing our stuff.”
He also said liberal students called security on them before taking matters into their own hands.
“Oftentimes, these leftist students will call us fascist on campus,” Cisinski said. “But then they’ll display those exact tendencies by trying to shut down our political speech and disrupt our events. It was also very ironic that this one student decided to steal our sign supporting freedom of speech.”
