Made in America: Trump’s straws, MAGA hats rake in big bucks

While the Democrat National Committee and various Democrat presidential candidates have been struggling to just raise a buck, President Donald Trump has been busy fundraising so successfully that he’s reportedly been breaking records left and right.

Case in point: On Sunday the president’s campaign confirmed to TMZ that it’s now sold over a million “Make America Great Again” hats and nearly a $1 million worth of straws. Yes, straws!

“Sources with the President’s campaign tell TMZ … sales for the straws — which come in a 10-pack for $15 and are meant to own the libs — have surpassed $850,000. We’re told they’re by far the most popular item right now on Trump’s online shop,” TMZ reported.

Keep in mind that the straws have only been on sale since late July.

“Liberal paper straws don’t work. STAND WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP and buy your pack of recyclable straws today,” the product’s description reads.

The campaign began selling straws in response to efforts by Democrat politicians across the country to ban plastic straws and replace them with unreliable, non-recyclable paper straws.

“I do think we have bigger problems than plastic straws,” the president said at the time of these bans. “You have a little straw, but what about the plates, the wrappers and everything else that are much bigger and they’re made of the same material? Everybody focuses on the straws, but there’s a lot of other things to focus on.”

“While straws are the current hot purchase among Trump supporters, the red MAGA hat is still going strong on the shop at #2 … and just passed 1 million units sold,” TMZ’s report continues.

They sell for $25 per hat, meaning the campaign has raised $25 million from the hats thus far.

If you own Trump-themed straws but lack a MAGA hat, you could win one by sending a photo or video of you “using” your straws to Trump’s campaign.

Word of the millionth hat’s impending sale emerged this past spring when the president’s campaign announced that it would give away the one-millionth hat as part of a competition.

According to the competition’s still-active official entry page, one Trump supporter will win a “signed Official Red Make America Great Again Hat commemorating the sale of over one million Make America Great Again hats,” plus a paid trip for two to attend one of the president’s rallies, be hand-delivered the hat in person by the president himself, and even snap a photo with him.

“President Trump is so excited about this accomplishment, that not only did he hand-sign the hat, but he also wants to deliver it to you personally at a HUGE rally!” the sign-up page reads. “Don’t worry we’ll cover, the flight, rally ticket, and your hotel!”

To be clear, the millionth hat was already manufactured, as were the millionth one, millionth two, etc. However, the millionth hat was taken out of the selling stockpile and stored securely “under lock and key” at the campaign office of Vice President Mike Pence’s nephew John Pence, who reportedly serves as a key campaign staffer.

It’s not clear when the competition will officially end.

Meanwhile, the DNC is reportedly spending more than it’s raising, while Trump and the Republican National Committee have together raised $105 million, which is only slightly less than all of the Democrat presidential candidates combined have raised.
