Candace Owens lights up House oversight panel! ‘This hearing is a farce’

An attempt by a white liberal “elite” to shame and defame firebrand conservative activist Candace Owens, a black woman, during a House Oversight and Government Reform hearing Friday on the alleged threat of white supremacy to minority communities backfired spectacularly.

The white liberal, “researcher” Kathleen Belew, had taken issue with Owens mocking the “ironic” and “hilarious” nature of the hearing on white supremacy.

Listen to Owens’ rebuttal below:

“You know exactly what I meant when I said hilarious,” she said. “You just tried to do live what the media does all the time to Republicans, to our president, and to conservatives.”

“You tried to manipulate what I said to fit your narrative. The audacity of you bringing up the Christchurch killer and manifesto and make it seem like I laughed at people who were slaughtered by a homicidal maniac is in my opinion absolutely despicable. And I think that we should be above that.”

She concluded by slamming Democrats for holding a “farce” hearing.

“This hearing, in my opinion, is a farce,” she said. “And it is ironic that you are sitting here and having three Caucasian people here to testify and tell you what their expertise are.”

“Do you know what my expertise are? Black in America. I’ve been black in America my whole life, all 30 years and I can tell you, you guys have done the exact same thing every 4 years.”

Given how many times that congressional Democrats interrupted Owens and excoriated her for speaking candidly, it’s presumed they don’t care about her experience as a black woman in America. Nor, it would appear, do the media, who’ve focused their attention on trying to rebut her.

“Kevin McAleenan, the acting Homeland Security secretary, said Friday during remarks at the Brookings Institution in Washington that the ‘continuing menace of racially-based violent extremism, particularly white supremacist extremism, is an abhorrent affront to our nation, the struggle, and unity of its diverse population, and the core values of both our society and our department,'” USA Today reported later Friday evening.

“[H]er comments came around the same time the DHS added white supremacist violence to its list of priority threats in a revised counter-terrorism strategy,” the outlet added.

It’s not clear how this disproves her assertion that there are more pressing issues facing minority communities — particularly the black community — than white supremacy.

The hearing began with Owens pushing back on the left’s narrative about white supremacy by pointing out that the real threats to minority communities — particularly the black community — are the absence of fathers, the lack of reading proficiency, and the abundance of abortion.

She further noted the irony of there being only one black witness at the hearing — her.

“[I]t is quite ironic that I’m the only black American that’s sitting here, and yet the people that called this hearing haven’t asked me a single question about my experience,” she said, referring to the race-obsessed congressional Democrats who run the committee.

FYI, Democrats didn’t invite her to the event. Republicans did.

“I think that probably points to what I say the larger issue is —  that Democrats come up with the problems, they come up with the solutions, and black Americans are basically used as props for them to get out their narrative and to ultimately control our vote using fear tactics,” she continued.

“I also found it quite hilarious that when asked for actual numbers, nobody here could actually provide them, because [white nationalism] is not actually a problem in America or a major problem or a threat that’s facing black America. This is, again, just election rhetoric.”

Listen:

A report from The Daily Beast, a left-wing outlet, published two years ago revealed that white supremacists comprise “less than 0.003 percent of the population.” Meanwhile, according to National Assessment of Educational Progress 12th Grade Reading Level Assessment data from 2015, only 17 percent of black students were reportedly proficient in reading

But instead of choosing to think deeply about Owens’ remarks, Belew — one of the white women whom the Democrats had invited to speak to the event — responded by accusing her of echoing the rhetoric of white supremacist mass shooters.

“I just have to say that I object strenuously to your use of the word ‘hilarious.’ To me, this feels a lot like your reaction to being named in one of these manifestos,” she complained.

It’s unclear whether she was referring to the manifesto of the Christchurch shooter or the El Paso shooter. What’s known is that both had complained about big corporations, environmental damage and income inequality in their respective manifestos.

“Now, you’re of course not responsible for the words of somebody writing that document, but I do think that laughing at it is a real problem because these are real families that are impacted by this violence,” Belew continued.

“And I think our efforts towards talking about this have to start from a place of mutual respect, which is what I’ve heard from this side of the table. Now, the reason we don’t have those numbers — I want those numbers as much as you do, but the number — to say the numbers don’t show something, is simply not supported by the data.”

Listen:

To be clear, Owens never once dismissed the existence of white supremacy or the threat that it poses. She’d simply argued that it’s certainly not the biggest threat faced by minorities.

“White supremacy is real, just as racism is real, but neither of these ideologies are real in this room,” she’d said. “They have become mechanisms for the left to continue to call these hearings and to distract from much bigger issues that are facing this country and which threaten minorities, much bigger issues that they are responsible for.”
