Gird your loins! Trump mocks de Blasio’s return to NYC after he drops out of race

President Donald Trump wasted no time poking fun at Bill de Blasio following the New York City mayor’s announcement that he was dropping out of the race to earn the Democrat Party presidential nomination for 2020.

“Oh no, really big political news, perhaps the biggest story in years! Part time Mayor of New York City, @BilldeBlasio, who was polling at a solid ZERO but had tremendous room for growth, has shocking dropped out of the Presidential race,” President Trump tweeted on Friday.

He followed that statement up with a warning for New York City.

“NYC is devastated, he’s coming home!” he tweeted.

De Blasio announced the end of his embarrassing campaign on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“I feel like I have contributed all I can to this primary election. It’s clearly not my time, so I’m going to end my presidential campaign,” the 58-year-old mayor said.

De Blasio is the sixth person to drop out of the running, which leaves 19 Democrats left battling it out for the nomination. While running, de Blasio failed to ever make a splash in the polls — something he tried to wave off as not important — and he mostly made headlines for ignoring his struggling city while he jetted around the country — which New York citizens had no problem reminding him about.

Trump was far from the only person to wish good riddance to de Blasio’s presidential ambitions. People on both sides of the political aisle celebrated his exit from the race.

“About time!” Brooklyn resident Jerica Wind, 69, told The New York Post.

New York resident Peter Velazquez said it’s time for de Blasio to focus his efforts on the job he actually gets paid to do.

“I think we could use more of his presence in New York City,” he said. “I think he had a few good points in the debate actually, but he probably overstayed his welcome, got a little obnoxious, and it’s time to come home.”

“Waste of money,” another resident said.

Reaction on social media was just as brutal.

“Inspired by Bill Deblasio’s brave choice, I am going to drop out of the Olympic 100 meter dash competition. I have given all I can to these Olympic trials. This is simply not my time to be an elite-level sprinter,” New York resident and “Rounders” screenwriter Brian Koppelman tweeted.

“Bill De Blasio dropped out of the primary this morning. Let’s recall his campaign: Only candidate with negative approval rating. Spent 7 hours in 1 month doing his real job in NYC. Failed to fill a coffee shop with supporters. Which campaign will receive his 0% of the vote?” Charlie Kirk tweeted.

“Bill de Blasio just ended his weak & washed up Presidential Campaign! He never had a chance against President Trump. He only ran so he could have a reason not to be in NYC But I was really hoping to hear: ‘Bill de Blasio has moved out of the United States of America,'” comedian Terrence K. Williams said in reaction.
