Rep. Kevin McCarthy: Comey, McCabe to face charges

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is certain that former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe will be indicted, but the California Republican boldly predicts that disgraced former bureau director Jim Comey will also be held accountable for his actions.

In an appearance on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” McCarthy told host Maria Bartiromo the former FBI leaders will face criminal charges for their roles in what he described as an attempted “coup” against President Donald Trump.

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz is expected to release his report on the FBI’s alleged abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act in the Russian collusion investigation, and Attorney General William Barr reportedly has already received a draft of that report.

“We came the closest ever to this country having a coup,” McCarthy said. “And now we need accountability.

“I respect this attorney general so greatly, that the way he has handled this, he believes in accountability, but more importantly, he believes in the rule of law,” he added.

Bartiromo asked McCarthy if the country will see accountability and he answered, “Yes.”

She then asked specifically if there will be indictments against McCabe, who is now a CNN contributor.

“We will see an indictment,” he replied. “Remember what we are talking about here, here’s the number two at the FBI who is going after individuals, trying to prosecute them, believing that they lied when he’s lying himself.”

“When law enforcement does not uphold the law, when it tries to put their thumb on the scale, that to me is where we really have to stand for accountability,” McCarthy continued.

Bartiromo then brought up Comey’s name, saying the perception people have is that “he’s getting off.”

“In the end, I do not believe that Comey will get off,” McCarthy predicted. “America sees that the president was correct about firing this individual — how worse would it have been if this man was still in his job today?”

“What’s even worse is that the Democratic Party wants McCabe to come to a fundraiser,” he said. “That’s absurd.”

McCabe is set to headline a fundraiser this coming weekend for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

The fired deputy director will also sign copies of his new book, “The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump.”

Yet, McCabe sued the FBI and Department of Justice last month, claiming that being fired for lying about authorizing leaks to the press was “politically motivated.”

Former CIA director John Brennan, now an MSNBC contributor who is rabidly anti-Trump, was also mentioned by Bartiromo.

“Anyone who has had any association with trying to create this coup should be held accountable,” McCarthy said, stopping short of predicting that Brennan will face any charges.

He said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, could bring Brennan and others before his panel.
