Kristin Cavallari’s super sexy 9/11 tribute slammed as tone deaf and inappropriate

Reality television star Kristin Cavallari was one of the many public figures to take to her social media to post a 9/11 tribute on the 18th anniversary of that tragic day. While many posts were an appreciated way to thank first responders, as well as remember victims and their families, Cavallari’s post was slammed as “insensitive” by critics.

The former “Laguna Beach” star posted a photo of herself in a black dress on a New York City sidewalk.

While some were highlighting real heroes or the ongoing effort to still identify bodies all these years later, Cavallari took the day as an opportunity to promote herself and her fashion line.

The 32-year-old tagged fashion designers in her post, and even gave a shoutout to her own brand Uncommon James. She also tagged her makeup artist Robert Sesnek and stylist Owen Gould.

“NYC for 24hrs. And what a time to be here..always remember,” Cavallari wrote in her original post. After some backlash, she changed the caption to simply read: “NYC for 24hrs.”

While Cavallari’s Instagram posts typically show off her fashion and style, many thought doing so in a post that mentioned 9/11 was inappropriate.

“Wrong picture for the sentiment in the post,” one commenter said.

Another responded by saying, “This is super insensitive.”

“Poor taste,” added another.

“Let me show off my body and then make a half-ass remark about 911. WTF,” said another.

“Maybe today isn’t the day to market your brand or yourself.. in NYC. #disappointed,” another suggested.

Page Six is reporting that Cavallari actually fired her social media staffer after backlash to her photo.

“We’re told Cavallari and her team sent the photo from her appearance to promote her new collaboration with Daltile on Tuesday night with the caption ’24 hours in New York City’ — but the staffer took it upon herself to post the image with a modified caption without Cavallari’s knowledge and while she was in a fitting on Wednesday morning,” Page Six reported.

Cavallari had previously told Page Six that she hates firing employees.

“There’s nothing comfortable about firing somebody,” she said. “I just fired my first person not that long ago and I honestly felt like I was going to throw up. I hate doing it. I haven’t had to do it that much — let’s just clear that up. But I have had to do a couple and it’s awful. It’s extremely difficult and I really want no part of it.”

People were just as critical of Cavallari’s post — as well as her “firing” — on Twitter.

“Kristin Cavallari is a total airhead. What a nitwit,” one user wrote.

“Wow…some say poor taste? How about insensitive, arrogance & greed on 9/11. COME ON…REALLY??!! SOME GAVE ALL,” another wrote.

“@KristinCav truly I have no clue who you are, BUT I now know of what your character, or lack thereof, consists. You’re idiocy, blamed on an employee, who’s then fired,” wrote another directly to the star.

“Nauseating to glom off disaster themes for fashion posts,” another wrote in reaction.

Cavallari is currently in New York City for Fashion Week.
