Campaign complains about Fox & Friends’ 100% accurate report on Buttigieg’s abortion comments

Democrat presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is angry at the hosts of “Fox & Friends” for running what appears to be a 100 percent accurate report about his radical outlook on abortion.

“This is, of course, a massive distortion of what Pete said, and just the latest false attack on Pete this week,” his press secretary Chris Meagher said to Mediaite late Saturday afternoon.

“Pete will continue to focus on how he is the right candidate to address the urgency of the moment we are currently in, a message that is clearly resonating with folks all across the country,” he added.

It’s unclear how polling at almost zero percent with African Americans is equivalent to “resonating with folks.” It’s also unclear what about Fox News’ coverage had been a “massive distortion.”

See if you can spot the “distortion” in the segment, which can be viewed below:

Earlier that morning, “Fox & Friends” co-hosts Ed Henry, Jedediah Bila and Pete Hegseth played a clip of Buttigieg essentially telling a radio show host that there should be no cut-off point for abortion — that women should be free to decide when they want to kill their babies.

“[Republicans] hold everybody in line with this one piece of doctrine about abortion, which is obviously a tough issue for a lot of people to think through morally,” he said on Friday to radio show host Charlamagne tha God. “Then again, you know, there’s a lot of parts of the Bible that talk about how life begins with breath. Even that is something that we can interpret differently.”

He continued, “No matter where you think about the kind of cosmic question of how life begins, most Americans can get on board with the idea of, ‘Alright, I might draw the line here. You might draw the line there.’ But the most important thing is the person who should be drawing the line is the woman making the decision.”

After playing a clip of the South Bend mayor making these remarks, the “Fox & Friends” hosts then discussed them.

“So he says life begins at breath, not at conception. This is raising all kinds of eyebrows,” Henry began.

Was this perhaps the “massive distortion” referenced by the candidate’s spokesperson? While Buttigieg did suggest at first that life begins at birth, he later clarified that he believes life begins whenever a woman decides it begins.

Bila, who’s currently pregnant with her first child (who according to the video below is a boy), continued the discussion by contrasting her experience as an expectant mother with the increasingly radical statements being made by Democrats.

“This topic is so interesting for me because I am pregnant and have just gone through a bunch of sonograms … You look at a 28-week year-old baby, that baby has expressions, he’s animated,” she said. “To hear someone then talk about the fact that that’s not considered life to them, takes on a hole new meaning when you go through the experience like this.”

I mean, you’ve had Democrats coming out and saying it’s a woman’s decision, even if that baby’s born alive. That’s not a woman’s decision. That’s a born-alive baby,” she added.

Fact-check: TRUE.

“You saw Bernie Sanders say we need abortion because it will help with climate change,” Hegseth chimed in. “Now you’ve got Pete Buttigieg using the Bible to justify the taking of an innocent life in a child.”

Was this perhaps the “massive distortion?” While the 2020 contender did mention the Bible, he concluded his statement by basically saying that the Bible and any other set of moral rules and codes is irrelevant — that only the opinion of “the woman making the decision” counts.

“Listen, if you want to play the Bible game, we can play the Bible game all day long,” Hegseth continued. “It was King David in Proverbs who said you knit me in my mother’s womb. The Bible has plenty of references to being made in the image of God, that children are a blessing.”

“He’s trying to go off Genesis, God breathing in through the nostrils,” Henry cut in.

“Got it, yeah, I’ve read that, I understand the reference,” Hegseth continued. “But ultimately, this is a justification of a political position which is increasingly untenable, because of technology and science and what we’ve realized about human life and the conscious and the soul of human life. So I think this is a loser for Democrats to fight on, but they’ve dug in even harder.”

Fact-check: ALL TRUE.

“The predominance of human biological research confirms that human life begins at conception —fertilization,” the American College of Pediatricians notes. “At fertilization, the human being emerges as a whole, genetically distinct, individuated zygotic living human organism, a member of the species Homo sapiens, needing only the proper environment in order to grow and develop.”

As for the Hegseth’s claim that Democrats have dug themselves into a hole, this appears to be accurate as well, or at least according to polling data:

An NPR/PBS poll published just three months ago found that while most Americans wanted to keep abortion legal, a 61 percent majority expressed support for “a combination of limitations that included allowing abortion in just the first three months of a pregnancy (23%); only in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the woman (29%); or only to save the life of the woman (9%).”

This suggests that the Democrat Party’s push to deregulate abortion to the point that a woman would be able to kill a baby at whim will ultimately wind up hurting them.
