Dobbs: Trump vindicated over hurricane-gate

Now that the facts are out and President Donald Trump’s concerns about Hurricane Dorian potentially striking Alabama have been vindicated, it would behoove the “national left wing media” and “left wing fake news media” to take a hint, Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs argued Friday.

Speaking that evening about confirmations from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Coast Guard and the Alabama National Guard that Hurricane Dorian had indeed been poised to strike Alabama, Dobbs tore the media a new one.

“The national left wing media went apoplectic over the past few days, you will recall,” his remarks began. “They were all claiming that President Trump was wrong when he said that Hurricane Dorian might affect Alabama. Take a look at some of these headlines from the ‘left wing fake news media,’ as he puts it.”

Here are those headlines:

“This is the stuff, folks, of absolute … well, it’s not exactly a mere loss of a sense of proportion on the part of the left-wing fake news media,” Dobbs continued.

He added: “This is madness, what we’ve witnessed over the last few days. And today, here we go, the snide and snarky set may stand by, this is a heck of a spoiler for you all: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration confirming that it provided information to President Trump late last week and early this week that Dorian could in fact affect Alabama.”

NOAA quickly issued the statement Friday in response to a false tweet by the National Weather Service claiming that the president’s warning about Dorian potentially hitting Alabama was wrong.

“From Wednesday, August 28, through Monday, September 2, the information provided by NOAA and the National Hurricane Center to President Trump and the wider public demonstrated that tropical-storm-force winds from Hurricane Dorian could impact Alabama,” the agency wrote.

“The Birmingham National Weather Service’s Sunday morning tweet spoke in absolute terms that were inconsistent with probabilities from the best forecast products available at the time.”

“And this NOAA map from last Friday clearly shows just that — that Dorian could have been on a track,” Dobbs continued. “These are estimates and guesstimates by our meteorologists in the federal government, that it might have an impact on Alabama.”

Dobbs drove the point home.

This of course is a lesson to the national left wing media,” the FBN host confidently asserted. “It isn’t the first time that this lesson has been appropriate for them because they never win against this president. No matter how hard they try. So with this, maybe this will encapsulate the lesson for the left wing media. You mess with a bull, you get the horn. And you got the horn.

Case in point: Despite the matter now being effectively settled, CNN continues to run defense for the president’s critics by insisting that he’s wrong. This despite a litany of parties, including the NOAA, issuing statements backing his original remarks.

On Thursday, Coast Guard Rear Adm. Peter J. Brown issued a statement confirming that he’d briefed the president “multiple times concerning the position, forecast, risks, and federal government preparations for and response to Hurricane Dorian.”

And in briefing the president, Brown had shared maps with him that showed Alabama as a possible target of the storm.

“The President’s comments were based on that morning’s Hurricane Dorian briefing, which included the possibility of tropical storm force winds in southeastern Alabama,” he said. “In fact, from the evening of Tuesday, August 27, until the morning of Monday, September 2, forecasts from the National Hurricane Center showed the possibility of tropical storm force winds hitting parts of Alabama.”

And as noted by the president himself in a tweet earlier this week, even the Alabama National Guard had warned locals about the hurricane potentially reaching their shore.

“#HurricaneDorian is projected to reach southern Alabama by the early part of the week. We are watching closely and #ready to act. Are you?” the military unit warned in a tweet Friday, only two days before Trump issued his own warning to Alabama.
