Former Rep. Jason Chaffetz, a Fox News contributor, said Friday that Democrats are “using the levers of government to try to negate the 2016 election but then do things in 2020 that they should never, ever do.”
Things like employing “behind-the-scenes tactics” to manipulate the electoral process in America, the Utah Republican insisted during an appearance Friday on “Fox & Friends.”
The spot began with talking about efforts on the left to intimidate and shame Trump supporters, to include a “blacklist” of those contributing to the president’s campaign.
“It is pervasive and a tactic on the left,” Chaffetz said, saying the left likes to “prey” on Republicans, who are quick to shy away from problems.
He said the left not only does this in Hollywood, but in places like Pittsburgh, adding that in going after average people, it just fires them up more.
“I think Donald Trump is stronger politically than he has ever been before,” said the former chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
Chaffetz has a book out, “Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic,” that looks at what Democrats are “doing behind the scenes” to invalidate the 2016 election results and undermine the election process.
The Amazon book description states: “Democrat anger has grown so irrational that it has burst through the constitutional guardrails which protect our institutions and our republic. While they constantly label the right “fascist,” the left imposes policies which suppress speech, limit freedom, and empower federal bullies.”
The book includes a focus on intimidation and the use of public charities and non-profits by Democrats to “get things they couldn’t do otherwise.”
“There are a lot of tactics and things that they do to try to change the way we are doing the election,” Chaffetz said. “They want to change the Electoral College. They want to make vote harvesting legal. They are doing all of these things and doing them behind the scenes. That’s what’s scary.”
He then explained vote harvesting, which is legal in California.
“If the Democrats had their way,” Chaffets said, “they want to be able to go out and collect everybody’s ballots without you having to go to the poll.”
“You could supposedly sign it,” he said of a ballot. “But they want to collect this. They did it in California. They took about eight seats from Republicans in California.”
Fox News co-host Steve Doocy asked for clarification that party officials pick up the ballots from voters’ homes.
“They picked up the votes and they turned them in en masse. They did it in Arizona. They did it in California and they want to make it legal,” Chaffetz replied.
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decided in January to give Democrats a new chance to argue that an Arizona law banning “ballot harvesting” is illegal, after a 2-1 ruling by one of their panels last year upheld a 2016 law banning the practice.
