Dave Chappelle’s new special shows drastic divide; panned by lib critics, praised by viewers

If there’s one comedian who does not care about political correctness, it’s Dave Chappelle.

The comedian recently released a new stand-up comedy special on Netflix called “Sticks & Stones” and the response to the special — which tears into modern political correctness and censorship — shows the sharp divide between online “woke” critics and regular viewers.

Users on Rotten Tomatoes have given the special a near-perfect 99 percent score, while critics deemed worthy by the website have blasted it with a 38 percent “rotten” rating — it was once hovering at zero percent. As of this writing, nine critic reviews have been counted while more than 9000 users have voted on the special.

Reviews from critics for the stand-up special sound more like political rants like anything else.

“Like dropping in on a rascally uncle who doesn’t know, or doesn’t care, how much he’s disappointing you,” Slate’s Inkoo Kang wrote.

“Lacking empathy can certainly be amusing, but Sticks & Stones is a tired routine by a man who forgot to layer jokes into his act, too often sounding like a pundit on Fox News,” critic Ian Thomas Malone wrote.

“Sticks and Stones is designed to generate inflammatory coverage… It’s a symbiotic cycle with no end in sight, and it’s become the last thing a beloved provocateur should ever want to be: predictable,” The Ringer’s Alison Herman wrote.

VICE argued that Chappelle, star of movies like “Half Baked” and “Con Air,” “chooses to blatantly ignore the historic criticism against his style of comedy and new loud-and-clear criticism from the trans community.”

Other viewers have meanwhile celebrated the comedian for daring to put together a special that doesn’t bow to the wants and needs of the angry woke critics who often target comedians for what they consider to be insensitive material today.

“This is the best example I can give that liberals are WAY over-represented in who gets to have a public voice,” wrote a Twitter user as he compared Chappelle’s immensely popular special to one almost no one has heard of that somehow earned a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Has a stand-up special ever had this kind of clear divide?” wrote YouTube critic and filmmaker Chris Stuckmann in response to the critic/audience ratio to Chappelle’s brand of humor.

“Literally everyone I know in real life regardless of politics thought it was hilarious,” a user wrote in response to Stuckmann’s tweet.

“Critics are afraid to give it even a fair review in fear of lunatic Twitter harassment,” added another.

“I think folks are scared to talk about it,” Stuckmann later added.
