More and more, one gets the impression that disgraced former FBI director James Comey is auditioning for a job at CNN — his anti-Trump rhetoric would certainly fit right in.
Comey, who was fired by President Trump, took to Twitter on Tuesday after Trump tweeted about a “crisis of confidence” at the FBI in the wake of Comey’s tenure at the bureau.
In a transparent attempt to take the high road after leaving the FBI in a shambles, Comey tweeted:
“Despite two years of Trump’s lies aimed at degrading the FBI, it remains a revered institution made up of good people focused on finding truth and doing justice. Stay true to your mission. America needs you.”

Of course, Comey continues to act as if the Justice Department inspector general did not just excoriate him for his actions while heading up the FBI.
Trump posted quotes from Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs during a segment with Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz focused on holding Comey accountable.
“The truth is that we have a nation that is disgusted with the FBI. We have a crisis of confidence in the number one law enforcement agency in this country (thanks Comey!). @LouDobbs ‘It’s a scandal.’ @AlanDersh,” the president tweeted.

The inspector general’s report faulted Comey for setting a “dangerous example” for FBI employees by authorizing the leak of information in the memos.
The report concluded Comey violated FBI policy when he leaked memos about his meetings with Trump to his personal lawyer, who then leaked them to the New York Times. Comey’s actions, which led to the appointment of a special counsel, was based on his “own, personal conception of what was necessary,” according to DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz.
The inspector general’s report included details on a Jan. 6, 2017, briefing with Trump by Comey, former CIA director John Brennan, former NSA Director Mike Rogers, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.
The meeting was billed as a “defensive briefing” on Russia’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 election, but Comey was looking to get “information of value” from Trump after informing him of accusations in the scandalous Steele dossier that was never verified.
Critics point to this meeting as an attempt by Comey to “set up” then President-elect Trump.
Yet, in the face of all of this, Comey and his media allies continue to hang their hat on the fact that the report did not conclude that he leaked classified materials.
In addition to Comey being fired, deputy director, Andy McCabe, was also fired. As was disgraced FBI agent Peter Strzok, who was engaged in an extramarital affair with bureau attorney Lisa Page — the lovers exchanged anti-Trump text messages, with Strzok assuring his lover that an “insurance policy” was in place to prevent a Trump presidency.
This cabal not only facilitated the Hillary Clinton private email probe, but had a role in the early stages of investigating Trump for colluding with Russia to influence the 2016 election — an accusation that proved to be a hoax.
And the American people are smart enough to separate rank and file FBI agents from the politically driven upper echelon during the Obama administration.
Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter that suggests as much:
You lied under oath, leaked classified material, failed to prosecute Hillary in a open/shut case for mishandling classified emails, and participated in an attempted coup d’etat… who directed you?
Enjoy your few remaining days of freedom.

First of all the FBI has been and will continue to be a “revered institution made up of good people focused on finding truth & doing justice” in spite what YOU did. @realDonaldTrump didn’t, “degrade the FBI,” It was you & your cronies who did. Glad you all were fired & exposed.
