Brit Hume on Joe Biden: ‘… senility is overtaking him, I think it is’

While most people appear to believe that former Vice President Joe Biden’s biggest weakness going into the 2020 elections is his propensity for gaffing nonstop, Fox News’ Brit Hume thinks otherwise.

Speaking Tuesday evening with FNC host Tucker Carlson, he speculated that Biden’s true weakness is his senile mental state.

“His problem isn’t just that he makes these gaffes, which he’s always done,” Hume said. “He blurts these things out that are totally impolitic. For example, you know, poor people are as smart as white people. That’s a gaffe.”

One of many gaffes, in fact.

“However, Tucker, the stuff you see with him more recently … For example, not remembering that when he met with the students from Parkland High School, that he wasn’t still in office,” he continued. “He’d been out of office for more than a year when that happened. The fact that he misremembered that? That’s not a gaffe.”

That’s the kind of memory problems that people his age and indeed my age have all the time. And I think the thing that may catch up with Biden over time — even among Democrats who would otherwise be for him — is the feeling that senility is overtaking him. And I think it is.”

“Geez,” Carlson replied in shock. “Nobody wants to say that.”

Fact-check: TRUE.

The media would rather obsess over the mental health of President Donald Trump, never mind the fact that he continues to ace his annual fitness checkups.

And so the media routinely trot out reportedly unlicensed psychiatrists like Bandy Lee to speak about the president’s allegedly “visibility deteriorating” mental health and point out his alleged “red flag” behavior.

But the moment anybody raises even the slightest concern about Biden’s own mental health, members of the far-left media invariably pounce.

“President Trump loves to yell about ‘fake news,’ but don’t expect him to call out his favorite news channel for pedaling it again: At least two Fox News personalities are now openly pushing conspiracy theories about Joe Biden’s physical health,” Vice lamented in June.

“Fox’s Sean Hannity and Lisa ‘Kennedy’ Montgomery (known mononymously as Kennedy) have both speculated that the current 2020 Democratic front-runner is secretly dealing with health issues, an echo of the constant conspiracy theories that surrounded Hillary Clinton during her 2016 presidential campaign.”

According to the media, any speculation about Biden’s mental/physical health is a “conspiracy theory,” while any speculation about the president’s health is somehow factual.

This double standard hasn’t gone unnoticed:

The latter tweet was correct.

“What’s not to like about Vermont in terms of the beauty of it?” the former VP said to reporters while campaigning in Keene, New Hampshire late last month. “And what a neat town. I mean this is sort of a scenic, beautiful town … everybody has been really friendly. I like Keene a lot.”

Continuing the discussion Tuesday evening on Fox, Carlson then asked Hume whether he believes Democrat Party leaders in Washington share his concern about Biden’s mental health.

“I’m sure they do,” he replied. “They’re bound to. You look at the history of his presidential campaigns. He’s undone himself repeatedly. … He tells these tall tales.”

“I mean, this recent story he told about trying to pin the medal on the guy. He had the facts all jumbled up. That strikes me as another case of his memory failing him.”

After Biden essentially made up the story, some members of the media covered for him.

“And I think that as Democrat voters look at this over time and are thinking about somebody going in to confront Donald Trump, who says all kinds of crazy stuff all the time, that’s kind of baked in the cake with Trump. People know that about him,” Hume continued.

“If you are going to beat him, you don’t want to be a candidate suffering from the same kind of problem, although expressed in different ways. You can’t be somebody who tells all kinds of tall tales all the time who you think is bad because he tells tales all the time.”

It’s not clear what tall tales the president has told. It is known though that he often enjoys employing sarcastic humor. What’s also known is that whereas Biden’s every “misspoken” word is described as just a “gaffe” by the media, Trump’s every one is always labeled a “lie.”
