White House counselor Kellyanne Conway turned one of Taylor Swift’s songs around on her in responding to the pop singer calling out the Trump White House in support of the Equality Act.
And, in the process, Conway proved that she can carry a beat.
The appropriate song chosen, “You Need to Calm Down,” was fitting after Swift, who surrendered to the liberal pop culture mob some time ago, was accepting an award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards and spoke about a petition she started to urge the Republican-led Senate and the White House to support the Equality Act.
Swift won for the aforementioned song, a pro-LBGTQ anthem — this being her reward for cowering to their demands.
Appearing on Fox News’ “The Story,” Conway was asked about Swift’s antics and she responded by pointing out the obvious, that Swift and the MTV audience are clueless about what is actually in the legislation.
“I would love to ask the audience if they even know what the Equality Act is and isn’t,” Conway responded. “There’s a lot of poison pills in it.”
“Well, there are a lot of details the LBGTQ community believes would give them greater equality in the workplace and elsewhere,” Host Martha MacCallum countered with a rudimentary explanation.
“I actually like the new Taylor Swift song that is “You Need to Calm Down.” I can sing it for you?” Conway replied. “’If you say it on the street, that’s a knock out, if you put it in a tweet, that’s a cop-out’ I love that. That’s Washington in a nutshell.”
“When Hollywood and singers all go political, it sounds in the moment like it is very popular,” she added. “And we have seen so many times where backfires and blows up. But she is somebody who went up against President Trump head-to-head in the U.S. Senate race in Tennessee and lost badly.”
(This being a reference to Swift endorsing the Democratic opponent who lost to Sen. Martha Blackburn, R-Tenn.)
In her acceptance speech, Swift noted that her petition had 500,000 signatures, that well exceeds the 100,000 threshold that warrants a White House response.
“Regardless of who we are, regardless of how we identify, at the end of this video there was a petition, and there still is a petition for the Equality Act, which basically just says we all deserve equal rights under the law,” she said.
“And, I want to thank everyone who signed that petition because it now has half-a-million signatures, which is five times the amount that it would need to warrant a response from the White House,” Swift continued.
The diva then tapped on her wrist as if she was wearing a watch, in a reference to time.
The problem with most legislation in a Democrat-controlled Congress — the bill was passed in the Democrat-led House — is that they bury provisions that can prove to be harmful to the economy and, in measures related to equality, even more taxing on Christians.
Something Conway tried to explain to MacCallum.
“The president and the White House support equality, we don’t support pieces of legislation that have poison pills in it that can harm other people,” she said. “Look at this economy. It’s equally open to everyone. People have job mobility, deregulation, trying to bring peace and prosperity around the world, that’s supposed to help everyone. But when something is named something, it’s not always truly that. And we have to look at legislation and if she can get her signatures that’s terrific.”
The White House released a statement that also spoke of “poison pills” being in the Equality Act.
“The Trump Administration absolutely opposes discrimination of any kind and supports the equal treatment of all; however, the House-passed bill in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights,” the statement read.
