Olive Garden restaurant fights off boycott after false Trump claim

After a tweet claiming Olive Garden is helping to fund President Donald Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign went viral over the weekend, the company was forced to go on the defensive and say the claim was absolutely false.

“We don’t know where this information came from, but it is incorrect. Our company does not donate to presidential candidates,” the company’s Twitter account put out on Sunday.

The tweet followed massive response to a viral tweet claiming the company is “funding Trump’s reelection in 2020.” That original tweet has since been deleted.

Another tweet was released following Olive Garden’s defense claiming that Garden’s parent company, Darden Restaurants, is actually the one donating to Trump’s reelection campaign.

“Thank for clarifying. Apparently, your owner is donating to Trump. This is the outrage. If he isn’t, I would suggest you guys issue a statement & fast. If he is, then that connection puts Olive Garden in serious financial risk. For the sake of everyone, something should be done,” the Twitter user wrote.

Olive Garden also denied this claim.

“To clarify, Darden does not donate to federal candidates,” the company tweeted in response to the followup.

Olive Garden even confirmed to Fox News that neither they or Darden Restaurants is donating to any federal candidates.

Another Twitter user posted an official note one of the Olive Garden restaurants posted at their location denying support of Trump.

“There is false information being shared through social networks claiming Olive Garden is funding President Trump’s reelection campaign. We wanted to make sure you knew this information is inaccurate in case you receive questions from team members and/or guests,” the note read.

It went on to give employees talking points to use when answering potential criticisms based on the false information.

“We don’t know where this information came from, but it is incorrect,” was the first talking point.

The second talking point was, “Our company does not fund federal candidates.”

Leftists were quite angry and calling for a boycott of Olive Garden after the initial tweet about the Trump support, which was shared over 50,000 times, was sent out. The tweet reportedly came from an account that regularly shared conspiracy theories, but has now been wiped.

Conservatives, however, were vocal about pushing back against the ridiculous boycott.

Another tweet that went viral accusing Olive Garden of donating to Trump’s campaign has also been outed as fake news.

Though the tweet has been shared hundreds of thousands of times, Huffington Post reported that one of the sources the Twitter user was using wrote a statement saying: “The organizations themselves did not donate, rather the money came from the organizations’ PACs, their individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals’ immediate families.”

There was also no specific source cited for the Olive Garden claim.

That’s a pretty generic standard when you’re calling for a boycott of an entire company.

Olive Garden is only the latest company to taste the intolerance of the left. Equinox and Soul Cycle were the targets of leftist boycotts recently after billionaire owner Stephen Ross scheduled an event in support of President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign.

It’s interesting that the modern day left claims to be for tolerance and equality, but they cannot stop demanding that people who disagree with them be de-platformed and entire companies go under when they get the faintest scent of a connection to Trump.

This obviously does no good. Even if Olive Garden were donating to Trump, is the answer really that the company end and all of the employees lose their jobs?

Trump Derangement Syndrome is so out of control at this point that leftists cannot see straight or think clearly. Many of them are becoming bullies who feel their behavior is excusable simply because they stand against the president.
