Spicer reacts to growing backlash over his ‘DWTS’ gig

There has been quite a backlash to the announcement that Sean Spicer, the former White House press secretary, will be joining the new season of the reality competition series “Dancing with the Stars.”

It seems like an innocent enough move by Spicer, but leftists are once again ringing the alarm bells and fear-mongering as best they can.

Spicer appeared on Fox News’ “Watters World” to respond to the overblown reactions.

Host Jesse Watters immediately jumped into the teasing, telling Spicer he “has no rhythm.” He asked the former White House official if he would at least do better than Geraldo Rivera and Tucker Carlson, both of whom were contestants kicked off of the popular show rather quickly.

“That’s my bar,” Spicer joked.

“That is a low bar,” Watters said. The Fox host then asked Spicer if leftists are worried about him appearing on the show because he’s a “likable” guy and that the platform could make people think differently about conservatives and Trump supporters.

“I’ve been fascinated by the narrative that this is somehow … some sort of rehabilitation tour,” Spicer said. “Look, I’m going to have fun. I’m very happy with who I am. I’m very happy with who I support and who I believe. If people want to see a different side of me, God bless them.”

About people not liking him or protesting his appearance, Spicer simply said, “I don’t care.”

Asked about possible guests he will bring on the show to watch him perform, Spicer said he is interested in promoting the Yellow Ribbon Fund, a group that supports wounded veterans. The former White House official said he would like to invite some veterans and their caregivers onto the show to help put a spotlight on them.

Despite Watters, Spicer and others taking his upcoming “DWTS” participation in good stride, leftists are still up in arms.

“By inviting Spicer to be a part of the new season, ABC and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ are helping normalize the behavior that is undermining the pillars of our democracy,” wrote Kurt Bardella at NBC News.

Even “DWTS” host Tom Bergeron has spoken out against Spicer appearing on the program.

“My preference … would have been to avoid any political lightning rods. I think ‘Dancing’ at its best is an oasis away from all the divisiveness and all of the stuff that we’re wrestling with right now,” he said on SiriusXM’s “EW Live.”

Fellow contestant and “Queer Eye” star Karamo Brown tried to defend Spicer when questioned by the press about the man’s upcoming appearance.

Brown called Spicer a “sweet guy” and added, “I’m a big believer that if you can talk to someone and meet in the middle, you can learn about each other and help each other both grow.”

The reaction to Brown’s comments? The backlash was so fierce on Twitter that he actually ended up deleting his account. Seriously.

Before deleting his account, Brown tweeted, “First, I have no say who is on the cast and didn’t find out till this morning that he is on. But I’ll tell you this … I’m excited to sit down [with] him and engage in respectful conversations. Only way things get better is if we try to educate those who have different [point of view] than us.”

He added, “But I understand how my comments could lead people to believe that I don’t understand the gravity of the situation. The personal is political. I’m reminded of it daily as a gay man of color. I know that representation matters – that it can affect change. I see you [and] I hear you. I’m bringing my personal message of love, equity, [and] inclusion to the dance floor. I want it to eclipse [and] triumph over divisiveness [and] hatred.”

Brown deactivated his Twitter account after the reaction to those comments and turned off the comment function on his Instagram.

Remember, this is all because people don’t like that a guy they disagree with politically is competing in a dance competition.

The bottom line is this: if you have a problem with Sean Spicer appearing on “DWTS” then you need to find some real problems.
