The lawyer for Jeffrey Epstein’s former Manhattan cell mate is a busy man these days.
Following the convicted sex offender’s reported suicide, attorney Bruce Barket claimed his client “knows a heck of a lot about what went on” regarding Epstein’s death.
Barket represents the hulking ex-cop Nicholas Tartaglione, who briefly shared a cell with the reclusive billionaire, and the attorney is stating that guards at Metropolitan Correctional Center are threatening Tartaglione, according to the New York Post.
Tartaglione, accused of killing four men in a drug deal involving cocaine, shared a cell with Epstein the first time he reportedly tried to commit suicide and Barket is asking that he be moved to a new prison.
In a letter sent to U.S. District Judge Kenneth Karas, Barket said that guards have told Tartaglione to “shut up,” “stop talking” and “stop complaining,” amid all the questions about how Epstein was able to hang himself in federal custody, the Post reported.
“The clear message Mr. Tartaglione has received is that if he conveys information about the facility or about [Epstein’s] recent suicide, there will be a price to pay,” the letter states. “Whether or not the investigators into the suicide chose to interview Mr. Tartaglione about the attempted suicide to which he was witness or about how the facility is run and the conditions under which the inmates are forced to live, the correction officers know he has information potentially very damaging to the very people now charged with guarding him or their coworkers.”
Barket also cited “deplorable” conditions at the facility, to include “a serious rodent and insect infestation,” as reasons to move Tartaglione.
The attorney has previously implied that the ex-cop has valuable information about what happened — information that may prove useful in cutting a deal for his client, who faces the death penalty.
“Nick knows a heck of a lot about what went on,” Barket said earlier this month. “He was there during the first attempt and he was there when he actually killed himself — he just wasn’t in the same cell.”
“Whether or not he’ll be in a position to cooperate remains unclear,” he said. “But he certainly has information that would be very valuable to the investigation if they want access to it.”
There was reportedly friction between the two cellmates, and an official noted that Epstein feared Tartaglione, who was transferred to another cell on the Friday before Epstein’s death.

Barket also added more intrigue to the already swirling conspiracy theories around Epstein’s mysterious death, given that the billionaire was pals with former President Bill Clinton, providing contradictory information about the morning Epstein died.
Citing a source familiar with the situation, CBS News had reported that shouting and shrieking was heard from Epstein’s jail cell that morning, but Barket told NBC News that Epstein’s death was a “silent act.”
“Nobody heard anything. It was a silent act,” he said.
As for Epstein, the hits keep on coming.
Fox News reported Wednesday that several lawsuits filed on Tuesday claim Epstein had sex with an 18-year-old girl at his nonprofit when he was on work release from a Florida jail in 2008.
…while a plainclothed sheriff’s deputy stood guard outside the Florida Science Foundation.
Epstein was serving an 18-month prison sentence at the Palm Beach County Jail after pleading guilty to state prostitution charges.
