Olivia Jade posts ill-conceived message to media amid celebrity mother’s college admissions scandal

Olivia Jade, a popular YouTuber and daughter to “Full House” star Lori Loughlin, posted a blunt message to the media on Sunday.

The 19-year-old Jade took to her Instagram and posted a picture of herself giving two middle fingers. In the caption to the post Jade tagged media outlets like Daily Mail and People. One tag read, “every other media outlet out there.”

Hashtags for the photo were “#close,” “#source” and “#says.”

Check out the photo below:

Jade is no doubt frustrated with the media since her parents, Loughlin and fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, are currently in trouble with the law for allegedly scamming their daughter’s way into college by paying bribes and falsifying documents.

Plenty of other parents are involved in the college admissions scandal, but Jade’s parents have refused to plead guilty.

“Desperate Housewives” star Felicity Huffman was one of the parents accused of scamming their kid’s way into college and she actually pleaded guilty and released a statement insisting that she regrets her actions.

“I am pleading guilty to the charge brought against me by the United States Attorney’s Office.
I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions,” Huffman wrote.

She went on to say that she is “ashamed” of her actions.

“I am ashamed of the pain I have caused my daughter, my family, my friends, my colleagues, and the educational community. I want to apologize to them and, especially, I want to apologize to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices to support their children and do so honestly,” she wrote.

The “Otherhood” actress continued, “My daughter knew absolutely nothing about my actions, and in my misguided and profoundly wrong way, I have betrayed her. This transgression toward her and the public I will carry for the rest of my life. My desire to help my daughter is no excuse to break the law or engage in dishonesty.”

Jade’s parents are accused of helping to scam their daughter’s way into the University of Southern California.

The entire college admissions bribery scandal is pretty disgusting because it shows the corruption at the center of a lot of colleges just looking squeeze students and their parents dry.

It also really exemplifies the privilege and entitlement a lot of elites in Hollywood and other industries feel, and that entitlement is clearly being passed on to spoiled children.

This new photo brings up an entire other discussion though, which is this strange new phenomenon of YouTube and social media celebrities.

Despite being only 19, Jade is incredibly successful. She’s a significant social media influencer and has nearly two million subscribers on YouTube — which brings up the question of why she needed college in the first place.

Celebrity based on social media presence and personal YouTube videos typically has a lot do with simply being yourself and exposing your private life. It’s an open window into someone’s world, so it’s strange to then see those people lash out at the media for covering their life in any way.

It’s different if, say, Daniel Day-Lewis is bothered by the media. He’s an actor who performs a certain job. His income is not based off of talking into a camera as himself or posting photos of him doing arbitrary things; it’s based on him being a successful actor.

To be fair, Jade mostly posts makeup videos, but her entire celebrity is still based on branding her life, so flipping off the media just suggests a bizarre entitlement that many likely already suspected she felt.
