Actor Jon Voight is defending President Donald Trump from accusations of racism.
In a new video posted to his Twitter account, the “Ray Donovan” star said the president is “not a racist” and racism is an issue that was “solved long ago by our forefathers.”

“My fellow Americans, too many are angered at the words of racism,” Voight said in his video. “This has been a big issue for the black community since the Civil War, but this has been solved long ago by our forefathers for peace and love.”
He continued by targeting the “angered left.”
“It seems that the angered left and angered minorities want to hold President Trump accountable for past lives. You see, we have been gifted with truth, and as I see it, anger is among the old chains that were binding to the people of slavery, old wounds that still seem fresh,” the “Deliverance” actor said.
He went on to encourage Americans to “vote for this country’s safety.” He also said he hopes “the angered left find truth.”
“May all the angered left find truth, what truth stands for,” he said.
Pushing back against accusations of Trump being racist, Voight said the president is a “man who loves his country” and someone who has “every intention to make this land great again.”
“We must understand that this is a nation of liberty, and this president is honoring all. He is not a racist but a man who loves his country and has every intention to make this land great again,” Voight said.
He also referenced the Holocaust at one point in the video.
“Let me talk about old wounds, the Holocaust. That, my friends, are wounds that live among the Jewish and non-Jewish that lost lives,” he said. “But this is not about color, race, religion. This is the United States of America, a nation built on trust and liberty.”

Voight, 80, has been a longtime supporter of Trump and even spoke at the president’s inauguration. The actor often posts videos to his Twitter account defending Trump.
He said earlier this year that Trump is “the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln.”
His most recent comments come in the wake of politicians like Beto O’Rourke accusing the president of being a white supremacist and saying his rhetoric directly leads to the mass shootings we have recently seen happen in places like El Paso, Texas.
Despite being an outspoken conservative actor in the Trump-hating Hollywood, Voight has managed to maintain success as an actor. He currently stars on the highly-rated Showtime drama “Ray Donovan,” for which he has been nominated for numerous awards. He won the Golden Globe for his role in 2014.
Voight won an Academy Award in 1979 for the film “Coming Home.” He was also nominated for the films “Midnight Cowboy,” “Runaway Train” and “Ali.”
Voight has used his public voice to bring people together for years now while others in Hollywood work hard to spread hate against those who disagree with them. Here’s hoping Voight has continued success as an actor and as a voice of reason in a town that seems allergic to common sense.
