AOC and choice members of Congress depicted as clowns in GOP ad: ‘Time to let the air out’

A new GOP attack ad is labeling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and other Democrats as clowns.

The attack ad mainly focuses on AOC and the other members of the congressional “squad” — Reps. Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar — who have recently feuded with President Donald Trump.

The ad is being used against Democrat Dan McCready, who is in a race against Republican Dan Bishop. The special congressional election between the two will take place on September 10 in North Carolina.

The National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee and the Bishop’s campaign have reportedly bankrolled the ad, which is set to begin airing on Monday.

The ad shows the faces of AOC and the rest of the squad superimposed onto the images of inflatable clowns. The ad labels the Democrats as “liberals” and “socialists.”

“They hate President Trump more than they love America,” the narrator announces in the 30-second ad.

The video also shows Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer as clowns too, but AOC and the squad seem to be the main focus.

The ad also argues that AOC and Omar are arguing for “open borders and sanctuary cities.” It also blasts Dems for supporting “taxpayer-funded health care for illegal immigrants.”

“They’re not funny. They’re downright scary. I’ll go to Congress and fight these clowns for you … it’s time to take the air out of these clowns,” Bishop says about the targeted Democrats.

Though North Carolina’s 9th district has been represented by Republicans since the ’60s, some Democrats believe there is a chance to swing the seat following a ballot fraud scandal that nullified Mark Harris’ victory last year and kicked off this special election.

President Trump won the district by 12 points in the 2016 presidential election.

McCready ran in the last election, so he has some momentum going into this race. Plus, he lost by less than 1000 votes last year.

Leftists have been a bit triggered over the ad, but others have appreciated the humor and said so on social media.

“That’s unfair to clowns,” one Twitter user wrote about the ad.

“Still giving them too much credit,” wrote another.

“Truth in advertising,” declared another.

Bishop is a state senator and he previously served in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2017, so he’s a strong candidate even in an election that has been described as a “toss up” by local media.

He is likely most well-known to leftists as an architect behind North Carolina’s “bathroom bill,” which barred people from using bathrooms that were not designated for their birth gender. Though it was signed into law, it was later overruled by a federal judge in Asheville.

His theme of calling leftists “clowns” is nothing new. He’s been taking to Twitter recently to dub certain Democrats clowns over their responses to the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. He’s called Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Beto O’Rourke and Tlaib clowns in his recent tweets.
