Television personality Mario Lopez is facing attacks from the rabid left for being critical of parents who allow their children to self-identify when it comes to gender, saying they are setting a “dangerous” example.
Lopez was doing an interview with conservative activist Candace Owens on her PragerU video series and Owens mentioned actress Charlize Theron, in citing a “weird trend” in Hollywood — in an interview earlier this year, Theron explained how she allowed her then 3-year-old son to determine that he is no longer a boy.
“Yes, I thought she was a boy, too,” Theron told the Daily Mail. “Until she looked at me when she was 3 years old and said, ‘I am not a boy!’”
Noting that small children don’t always mean what they say, Owens said she had a hard time understanding “this new Hollywood mentality where they just think their children now have the mental authority.”
Lopez responded with a simple application of common sense.
“I am trying to understand it myself, and please don’t lump me into that whole [group]. I’m kind of blown away too,” he said. “Look, I’m never one to tell anyone how to parent their kids obviously and I think if you come from a place of love, you really can’t go wrong but at the same time, my God, if you’re 3 years old and you’re saying you’re feeling a certain way or you think you’re a boy or a girl or whatever the case may be, I just think it’s dangerous as a parent to make this determination then, well, OK, then you’re going to a boy or a girl, whatever the case may be.”
“It’s sort of alarming and my gosh, I just think about the repercussions later on,” he added, before pointing out that as a kid “you don’t know anything about sexuality yet. You’re just a kid.”

The honest opinion shared by the actor drew a response from the intolerant left, with the Humans Rights Campaign tweeting: “Mario Lopez’s comments are dangerous to the safety and well-being of LGBTQ youth, especially trans children who deserve to be loved and accepted for who they are.”

And that was just the beginning of the attacks against the 45-year-old actor. For the left, dissent simply will not be tolerated.
Here’s a sampling of the negativity as seen on Twitter:
I say it’s dangerous for washed up 90s teen heartthrobs to be suggesting that they have any expertise in gender or sexuality. But that’s just me.

It’s such a shame his career peaked when he was 16 years old.
Seems that’s when his brain stopped working, too.

My gut reaction to reading his recent problematic comments was to say “Mario Lopez is an idiot!” But that probably isn’t true. Rather than pure ignorance, I suspect that his skewed beliefs probably stem from the fact that he’s dealing with his own self-hatred. pic.twitter.com/zeCMq53zvv

Dear Mario Lopez,
Transphobic parents are the danger not children being their truest selves.
Too many parents terrorize their children by forcing them into these gender boxes and limiting their expression. If you're doing this, your parenting sucks.https://t.co/szwUxJG8UQ

Understanding where his bread is buttered, Lopez would soon backtrack on remarks that NBC News labeled as “controversial.”
In a statement to NBC News, he said his remarks were “ignorant and insensitive” and added that he now has “a deeper understanding of how hurtful they were.”
“I have been and always will be an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ community, and I’m going to use this opportunity to better educate myself,” Lopez added. “Moving forward I will be more informed and thoughtful.”
Not that Lopez didn’t have his share of support — from the right side of the political aisle, of course.
Here’s a sampling of responses in his favor from Twitter:
Children can’t pick their gender.
If kids could choose who they want to be, the world would be filled with children who think they are superheroes, mermaids, princesses, animals, knights, etc.
So why does the Left think it makes sense for kids to pick their gender? #MarioLopez

Mario Lopez said nothing wrong here. Nothing. pic.twitter.com/y166bBSe1R

The attacks on Mario Lopez are absurd. We don't let 3 year olds drink coffee because it will supposedly stunt their growth, but we're transphobes if we don't let them make life-changing decisions about gender?!
Ridiculous.

Mario Lopez is correct, 3-year old children should not be making life-altering decisions about their gender.
Not sure why this is a controversial opinion to have…
— Brigitte Gabriel (@ACTBrigitte) July 31, 2019
Mario Lopez is not only correct but he said what he said politely. 3 year olds aren’t able to choose their gender. I have a 3 year old. She flip flops over being a unicorn, a UFC fighter or a princess still. Anyone shaming @MarioLopezExtra needs to join us in reality. pic.twitter.com/1dkdCFoi1v

I never thought I’d live in a world where Mario Lopez was being attacked for saying toddlers can’t choose their gender.
