Biden and Harris clash right out of the gate: He is ‘confused’ because he ‘hasn’t read my plan’

The rivalry between former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) got even more heated during Thursday night’s presidential debate on CNN.

After Biden had an embarrassing moment where he asked Harris to “go easy” on him, the California senator proceeded to hammer Biden over his healthcare plan. How did Biden respond? He hit back just as hard.

Moderator Dana Bash asked Harris about Biden’s campaign calling her healthcare plan a “have every which way approach,” to which Harris replied, “well, they’re probably confused because they’ve not read it.”

Harris’ healthcare plan, by the way, will take 10 years to implement, which is a main point Biden has used to criticized the senator.

“The reality is that I have been spending time in this campaign listening to American families, listening to experts, listening to healthcare providers and what I came away with is a very clear understanding that I needed to create a plan that was responsive to the needs of the American people,” Harris said of her healthcare plan.

She continued by saying that insurance companies have been “jacking up the prices for far too long” and that families can go through bankruptcy due to their healthcare premiums.

Explaining her “10 year” plan, Harris said experts have told her that four years is simply not enough to overhaul the current healthcare system.

She went on to claim that there will be both a “private plan” and a “public plan” under her Medicare system.

“The bottom line is this,” the Democrat senator said, “we must agree that access to healthcare must be a right and not just a privilege for those who can afford it.”

Asked for a response, Biden said, “Well, my response is that the senator has had several plans so far and anytime someone tells you that you’re going to get something good in 10 years, you should wonder why it takes 10 years.”

He continued by saying that Harris’ plan will cost a whopping three trillion dollars and people will lose their employer-based insurance plans.

“To be very blunt and to be very straight-forward, you can’t beat President Trump with double-talk on this plan,” Biden added.

The verbal back-and-forth then began with Harris calling Biden “inaccurate” and saying his plan “leaves out almost 10 million Americans.” She then talked down to the former vice president, advising him to be “reflective” and “think about” what he’s saying.

Biden countered by mentioning again the cost of Harris’ plan and saying it will require middle-class taxes to “go up.”

“The cost of doing nothing is far greater,” Harris replied.

Neither of these Democrats have a strong or sound healthcare plan, but Biden looks especially foolish in this arena because he worked in the previous administration to pass Obamacare, which was supposed to magically fix healthcare in this country. Here we are years later and he’s still telling Americans he has the easy fix like a snake oil salesman.

Plenty of other candidates tried to jump into the healthcare debate, but Harris and Biden kept the focus on themselves. The back and forth between actually took up the majority of the first hour of the debate.
