Giuliani: ‘Body was buried’ on impeachment after Mueller testimony, warns ‘big’ and ‘real crimes’ to be uncovered

Thanks to former special counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony Wednesday before the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees, the Democrats’ collusion, obstruction and impeachment narratives are mostly dead, according to the president’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.

“It’s not quite over yet,” the former New York City mayor said Wednesday evening on Fox News. “That hand is going to come up again one or two times, and we’re going to have to push it down. The body was buried today.”

During the hearings, Mueller confirmed that:

  • His “investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government in its election interference activities” (no collusion);
  • President Donald Trump never “curtailed or stopped or hindered” his investigation “at any time” (no obstruction).

Couple the death of these two attack angles with Mueller’s lackluster, inconsistent performance, and it becomes clear that the chances of a successful impeachment are now non-existent. But it’s not just Republicans saying this. Even members of the left-wing media have echoed this sentiment.

Impeachment’s over,” ABC News senior national correspondent Terry Moran opined during a panel Wednesday afternoon. “I don’t think Nancy Pelosi is going to stand for her members bringing forth something that is going to obviously lose in the Senate, lose with the American public.”

“[A]nd the problem with Mueller’s testimony on this issue is that he had to carry the ball for them whether he wanted to or not … [but] [h]e looked like somebody who had slowed a step or two … [T]hey needed more fuel for any kind of impeachment effort.”

Like the president’s other personal attorney, Jay Sekulow, noted later that evening alongside Giuliani on Fox, “The Democrats lost, the president and the country won, and the case is closed — there’s nothing left in this case.

With this out of the way, the next “volume” begins. And this “volume,” as Sekulow called it, pertains to how and why exactly Mueller’s investigation was ever even launched.

This aspect of the whole investigation is “much more serious” than the original “phony allegations” themselves, Giuliani argued.

Because there are real — I guarantee you Sean — there are real crimes like I used to prosecute,” he said. “Real ones. And they could be really big. I’m not sure how high they go. But they go pretty darn high. And they better be investigated so it doesn’t happen again.”

Listen via FNC’s “Hannity“:

Granted, the former NYC mayor wasn’t always a believer. Earlier in the segment on “Hannity,” he admitted that he used to be doubtful about host Sean Hannity’s claims that a band of Obama-era officials had purposefully sought to execute a coup against Trump.

“There’s a very serious aspect to all of this,” the host noted. “Our constitutional republic came dangerously close to a few powerful people abusing power and literally attempting to influence an election. We had a Russian dossier used to influence an election.”

“A media that ignored and politicians that ignored the real Russian influence. And they went after this president with lies and conspiracies. They came dangerously close — this was certainly an attempted coup, Mr. Mayor, in my view.”

This time, Giuliani seemed to concur.

“You could call it that,” he said. “I would’ve probably resisted that a year and a half ago. You were telling me that a year and a half ago. Until I got involved with this, I didn’t realize how bad it was. And Mueller’s performance today is really an indication also of there’s no case. There never was a case.”

“Peter Strzok said it best two years ago: There’s no there there,” he added, referencing the disgraced former FBI special agent who was booted from Mueller’s investigation team last year after it was discovered he harbored a deep animus against the president.

“So how come we had an investigation if there’s no there there, unless there were people [who] for criminal reasons — meaning to oust [Trump] from office or prevent him from being president — that were pushing it?”

“And when Mueller said today that it was beyond his purview to investigate the people who were trying to prevent Trump from being elected  and were trying to take him out of office, I thought he was appointed to investigate interference with the 2016 election?”

He said ‘beyond his purview’ 16 times. … The only thing in his purview was framing Donald Trump.

Listen:

The former special counsel’s apparent ignorance regarding the origins of the Russia probe were shocking.

“Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller said he was ‘not familiar’ with Fusion GPS — the firm whose opposition research included allegations of President Trump’s connections to Russia and was the foundation for Mueller’s two-year investigation — during his Capitol Hill testimony on Wednesday,” Fox News notes.

No matter, because Attorney General Bill Barr has assigned another well-respected prosecutor — U.S. Attorney John Durham — to dig into the origins of the Russia probe and uncover answers once and for all.

While it’s unclear what he’ll ultimately discover, Giuliani certainly isn’t the only one who believes that it’s going to be something “really big” that’s going to take down a slew of Obama era officials, including potentially disgraced former CIA Director John Brennan, disgraced former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and disgraced former FBI Director James Comey.

“John Brennan isn’t going to need one lawyer. He’s going to need five,” retired U.S. Attorney Joe diGenova predicted on FNC’s “The Ingraham Angle” three months ago.

“The problem for Brennan and Clapper and Comey and Baker and all of them now is that the FISA court has already communicated with the Justice Department about its findings, and their findings are that for more than four years before the election of Donald Trump, there was an illegal spying operation going on by FBI contractors, four of them, to steal personal information, electronic information about Americans, and to use it against the Republican Party.”
