Sleepy Mueller wakes up long enough to tell Schiff that Trump tweets call for investigation

Though Robert Mueller faced plenty of tough questioning on Wednesday from Republican lawmakers, he also seemed to get plenty of softball and seemingly irrelevant questions from Democrats during his hearings.

In the House Intelligence hearing on Wednesday afternoon, Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL) started his questioning by first referring to earlier comments made by Robert Mueller where he said that a sitting president could not be indicted, but that the president could be indicted after they serve their term or terms in office.

Quigley then asked, “The followup question that should be concerning is: what if a president serves beyond the statute of limitations?”

“I don’t know the answer to that one,” Mueller replied.

Quigley then asked if a second term could help a sitting president escape criminal charges if it allows them to simply wait out the statute of limitations for the crime they have committed. Without actually naming Donald Trump, Quigley asked if this possible loophole means the American president is “above the law.”

“I’m not certain I would agree with the conclusion,” Mueller said.

Quigley later moved into a bizarre rant about Wikileaks.

Citing that former CIA Director Mike Pompeo once described Wikileaks as a “hostile intelligence service,” the lawmaker asked Mueller, “How would you assess what Wikileaks does?”

“Absolutely [they are a hostile intelligence service],” Mueller predictably said, “and they are currently under indictment, Julian Assange is.”

Quigley then truly went off the rails by bring up a slide that contained Donald Trump tweets regarding Wikileaks.

The tweets included the president saying things like “I love Wikileaks” and “Wikileaks is a treasure trove.” The comments shown came from 2016. Check them out below:

After reading some of the quotes, Quigley asked of Mueller, “Do any of those quotes disturb you?”

Mueller stumbled over his words for awhile as he often did through his Wednesday hearings and then he described the tweets as “problematic.”

Quigley then brought up communication between Wikileaks and Donald Trump Jr. and asked Mueller again if he was disturbed.

Mueller confirmed that he was and said the communications are “subject to investigation.”

“Could it be described as aid and comfort to a hostile intelligence service, sir?” the Democrat lawmaker asked.

“I wouldn’t characterize it with any specificity,” Mueller replied.

Quigley then yielded the remainder of his time to Adam Schiff (D-CA). Schiff was equally soft with Mueller.

“I think you made it clear that you believe it is unethical, to put it politely, to tout a foreign service like Wikileaks for publishing stolen political documents to the presidential campaign?” Schiff asked.

“It certainly calls for investigation,” Mueller replied.

If Democrats are wondering why Americans aren’t as enthusiastic over the nothing-burger that is the Mueller investigation then they should watch this line of questioning. It’s ridiculous. Mueller is essentially asked nothing specific or substantial about his investigation and is instead asked to give his opinion on Wikileaks and past tweets by the president.

Quigley and Schiff practically feed rhetoric to the sleepy Mueller, as well. Quigley tried multiple times to get Mueller to use a word like “disturbed” and Schiff caps things off by basically asking Mueller to confirm an irrelevant opinion most likely already know he has.

This is exactly why the Democrat Party is losing the trust of the American people. Instead of arming themselves with facts, they instead happily take part in open political theater that seems to have zero purpose except to give these Democrats an excuse to pat each other on the back for promoting a conspiracy theory that has already been debunked.
