New poll shows ICE much more liked than any single member of the radical ‘freshmen four’

According to a poll conducted earlier this week, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement boasts a higher favorability rating than any member of the infamous Democrat “squad.”

And this despite ICE being maligned nonstop by the media — and, conversely, the four members of the “squad” constantly being propped up by the media as “heroes” and “queens.”

The poll by The Economist and YouGov specifically found that 15 percent of Americans have a “somewhat favorable” view of ICE, whereas a higher 27 percent have a “very favorable” view of the agency. Combined, that gives the agency a 42 favorability score. Not bad.

Meanwhile, not a single member of the squad obtained a “Very favorable” rating higher than 17 percent.

Their favorability ratings may be seen below:

  • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: 17 percent “very favorable,” 16 percent “somewhat favorable”
  • Ilhan Omar: 10 percent “very favorable,” 15 percent “somewhat favorable”
  • Rashida Tlaib: 11 percent “very favorable,” 13 percent “somewhat favorable”
  • Ayanna Pressley: 11 percent “very favorable,” 11 percent “somewhat favorable”

Combined, AOC, Omar, Tlaib and Pressley’s favorability ratings were 33, 25, 24 and 22 percent. That averages out to 26 percent, which is 16 percentage points lower than ICE’s favorability rating — and, more notably, one point below the agency’s “very favorable” rating.

This is highly, highly, highly relevant going into 2020 now that the Democrat Party appears to be united around these four radical “squad” members.

In response to trash-talking tweets about the “squad” that President Donald Trump had posted over the weekend, on Tuesday all 235 Democrats in the House voted in favor of a resolution to condemn him.

And a day prior to that, the party allowed the squad members to hold their own attention-seeking, victimhood-laced press conference about the president’s tweets.

Many suspect that uniting the party around the “squad” had been Trump’s goal all along.

“He wants to elevate these four young members of Congress to make them the emblem of the Democratic party and he wants to be so outrageous about it that he forces all Democrats to embrace them, to support the argument that they are the iconic figures in the party,” Democrat strategist David Axelrod opined Wednesday evening on CNN.

What the president told the Daily Mail in an interview earlier Wednesday certainly seems to support this theory.

“In a brief phone call a few hours before he’d speak to a rally crowd in North Carolina, Trump told DailyMail.com that his game of mental jiu-jitsu with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was ‘one of the all-time classics’ and accused Democrats of playing the ‘race card’ against him,” the outlet reported.

“Asked if he planned that sequence of events and the one that followed yesterday, which ended with the passage of a resolution condemning him, he paused.”

“Well, let’s put it this way,” the president then reportedly replied. “I’m not unhappy.”

The poll by The Economist/YouGov demonstrates one reason why this strategic play could wind up working very well to the president’s benefit.

The four squad members have been ICE’s loudest critics. In fact, they’ve been calling for ICE to be defunded or outright abolished since since last summer, months before they won election and even stepped into office.

“Our immigration system is fundamentally broken and ICE’s role in supporting the existing system — including separating families seeking refuge in the United States and conducting indiscriminate deportation raids in our communities — is creating an atmosphere of toxic fear and mistrust in immigrant communities,” Pressley said in a statement at the time.

AOC took it even further.

“ICE is operating exactly as designed when it rips screaming children from parents. That’s exactly why we must abolish it,” she tweeted in June of 2018. “We MUST have the moral and political courage to #abolishICE. Weak half-measures do nothing. This is a defining moment of our time – the time to act is now. The call has since been upgraded, with members of the squad now calling for the agency’s outright elimination.”

She repeated this call to action in April.

“I think abolish ICE is a call to action on several levels,” she said during an event at the time. “One is the literal interpretation of abolishing ICE, which I support and I’ve said, you know, on multiple occasions that I don’t believe that an agency that systematically and repeatedly violates human rights and I don’t think that agency can be reformed.”

“I think it has to be abolished and I think we need to figure out a way of doing things. But that new way of doing things is I think what we need to build, and that’s also where the call to action is.”

Then this month she not only tripled down on her demands but upgraded them by suggesting that the entire Department of Homeland Security be axed.

Now compare the “squad’s” anti-ICE activism to the agency’s fairly decent favorability ratings. Last but not least, compare the favorability ratings of the agency the “squad” hates to their own favorability ratings. What does this tell you? It should tell you everything.
