Rapinoe shredded over autograph signing response at awards show: ‘arrogant piece of work’

During this year’s Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards show Wednesday evening in downtown Los Angeles, a young boy approached U.S. women’s soccer team lead player Megan Rapinoe in search of an autograph.

While the widely disliked soccer star obliged the boy’s request, the way she carried it out has earned her scathing, widespread criticism, with noted English broadcaster Piers Morgan going so far as to slam Rapinoe as “such an arrogant piece of work.”

Notice how she neither looked at the boy nor said a word to him. Other than for taking the ball from the boy’s hand and signing it, she appeared to ignore his very existence.

To be clear, this is just a seven second clip — one shared on social media Wednesday evening by ABC News. Because of the clip’s length, it’s unclear what happened prior to the young boy approaching Rapinoe. Did she perhaps smile at him as he was approaching? Nobody knows.

That being said, many have taken this clip as incontrovertible proof of how arrogant, egotistical and narcissistic of a person the soccer star happens to be. And it hasn’t just been random social media users saying this. A number of notable individuals have joined the chorus as well.

Here’s just a sliver of the criticism from blue check marks (*LANGUAGE WARNING):

Regular folks have been even more critical.

“The window to the soul is observing how someone treats someone powerless who can do absolutely no good for them,” one particularly caustic critic wrote. “She’s a piece of sh-t. Her actions over the last 3 weeks confirm it. Making eye contact and acknowledgment of a fan costs 0.”

Ouch.

There’s more like it too:

The argument could be made that this is simply the type of person Rapinoe happens to be. Her whole shtick seems to center on disrespecting everybody and everything, including America; whining about alleged wage discrimination; and virtue-signaling nonstop.

Like Washington Examiner Brad Polumbo opined last week, “She’s a celebrity, a lesbian icon, and a millionaire. But according to Rapinoe, she’s an oppressed victim of sexism, apparently.”

He continued by noting that she’s “too drunk on political correctness” (not to mention herself) to realize that, one, the alleged pay gay gap in soccer runs in the other direction, and two, that the country she disrespects nonstop is the one responsible for her success.

“Beyond the embarrassing exercise in self-victimhood, Rapinoe’s personality is marred by her lack of appreciation for the country that has given her the chance to rise so far and achieve so much,” Polumbo wrote.

“She has turned the women’s historic World Cup win into a political pissing match, when it could have been a bipartisan moment of unity for the country. When asked, Rapinoe said, ‘I’m not going to the f—ing White House.’ Plus, she has repeatedly knelt for the national anthem and said, ‘I’ll probably never put my hand over my heart. I’ll probably never sing the national anthem again.'”

What will she say next, huh? “I’ll never look a young male fan in the eyes!?”

“It’s hard to avoid the conclusion that Rapinoe is a bad role model for the millions of young women across the country. They look up to her and see not a disciplined, respectful sports icon, but a groundlessly bitter, petulant celebrity who is totally ungrateful for the opportunities she’s had,” Polumbo wrote in conclusion.

And sadly, it appears she’s unequally grateful of the fans — some of them young children — who adore her.
