007 goes woke: black woman taking over for Connery, Dalton, Craig, and others

The James Bond torch will be passed in the franchise’s upcoming 25th film and let’s just say the new 007 will be a little different from previous ones.

Several reports suggest current Bond actor Daniel Craig will be retiring after the next film in the franchise, which is set to hit theaters on April 8 of next year, and he will share a scene with a new character taking on the title of 007, which is the codename for Bond within the franchise.

“There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007,’ and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman,” a Bond insider told The Daily Mail. “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”

The source continued, “Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don’t work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed. Well, certainly not at the beginning.”

Screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge is reportedly behind the passing of the torch moment.

“There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not Bond is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women. I think that’s bullsh*t. I think he’s absolutely relevant now. [The franchise] has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to his character,” the “Killing Eve” screenwriter said, according to Daily Mail.

This new 007 is rumored to be played by Lashana Lynch, a British actress who recently had a role in the hit film “Captain Marvel.” Lynch is 31 years old.

The new report on the 25th Bond also claims that elements of the #MeToo movement will be “humorously” added into the new film.

It appears the womanizing, world-saving, hard-drinking, politically incorrect James Bond originally conceived by novelist Ian Fleming will be a bit of a joke going forward in the franchise, which is a shame because it’s a character so many grow up knowing and one so many actors have built careers out of playing.

Previous Bond actors include Sean Connery, Goerge Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan.

The most recent actor to take on the role has been Daniel Craig. The next Bond film will be his fifth major motion picture in the franchise.

Craig’s previous turns as the character include the films “Casino Royale,” “Quantum of Solace,” “Skyfall,” and “Spectre.”

Not much is known about the specific plot for the 25th Bond film, but Cary Joji Fukunaga (“True Detective”) is directing the picture and Christoph Waltz (“Django Unchained”) was recently rumored to be rejoining the franchise as famous villain Blofeld. He was introduced as the character in “Spectre.”
