For the hard left, much of the disquietude that is reflective in their radical behavior can be traced back to George W. Bush — progressives have never been quite the same since Bush emerged victorious over Al Gore, taking their hatred to new levels in the years that followed.
While 29-year-old former bartender Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was but a wee child at the time, the liberal indoctrination she received in school left her with Bush on the brain, as she cited the 43rd president of the United States in calling for getting rid of the Department of Homeland Security.
In an interview last week with New Yorker Radio, the Democratic congresswoman pointed to “egregious mistakes” by Bush in saying she’d get rid of the agency tasked with public security, Fox News reported.
Ocasio-Cortez was commenting on how U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which the socialist has also called for abolishing, is under the Department of Homeland Security rather than the Justice Department, when host David Remnick interjected.
“Would you get rid of the Department of Homeland Security, too?” he asked.
“I think so,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I think we need to undo a lot of the egregious, umm, a lot of the egregious mistakes that the Bush administration did.”
Nearly 20 years removed from the deadliest terrorist attack ever on U.S. soil, where nearly 3,000 people died, the first-term lawmaker who has been in office six months said the agency should never have been created.
“I feel like we are, at a very, it’s a very qualified and supported position, at least in terms of evidence, and in terms of being able to make the argument that we never should of created DHS in the early 2000s,” she added.
As for what she sees as a “sane immigration policy” Ocasio-Cortez all but advocated for open borders, saying that “we should not be using detention for people who have harmed no one.”
The focus on detention centers seems to be a strategy to steer away from the border being overrun by tens of thousands of migrants — many being women and children from Central America — week after week. Border Patrol has reported nearly 140,000 apprehensions in May alone.
The sea of humanity has completely overwhelmed the government’s capacity to deal with them, and has diverted scores of Border Patrol agents away from patrolling the border to help provide for their welfare.
And with the Democratic Party serving as a de facto siren to poor migrants, calling on them to flock to America with the assurance that they will be their champion, the party exaggerates how illegal immigrants are being treated by the overwhelmed agencies to appeal to public sentiment.
An example of this was seen last week from Ocasio-Cortez.
In what was little more than theater of the absurd, the lawmaker wildly claimed while touring detention facilities that agents forced migrants to drink from toilets — she also claimed she wasn’t safe around agents and that they sexually harassed her.
Oh, and Ocasio-Cortez is still pushing the patently false, disrespectful claim that the U.S. government is operating concentration camps on the southern border.
“The fact that concentrations camps are now an institutionalized practice in the Home of the Free is extraordinarily disturbing,” she said in Friday’s interview. “And we need to do something about it.”
Something other than stopping the aforementioned sea of humanity that’s flooding the southern border.
Limited government conservatives may not have a problem with eliminating a huge federal agency, albeit for very different reasons, but social media users weren’t overly keen on the idea.
