Former President Barack Hussein Obama and his political soul brother, Senate Majority Leader “Cocaine” Mitch McConnell, aren’t the only political figures whose ancestors owned slaves.
According to Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris’s father, Donald J. Harris, a Stanford University economics professor, their ancestors also owned slaves.
“My roots go back, within my lifetime, to my paternal grandmother Miss Chrishy (née Christiana Brown, descendant of Hamilton Brown who is on record as plantation and slave owner and founder of Brown’s Town) and to my maternal grandmother Miss Iris (née Iris Finegan, farmer and educator, from Aenon Town and Inverness, ancestry unknown to me),” he wrote in a lengthy op-ed earlier this year for Jamaica Global.

Hamilton Brown was an Irish sugar planter who reportedly founded Brown’s Town — then known as Hamilton’s Town — in Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica, in the early 1900s and built the town’s historic, still-standing St. Mark’s Anglican Church.
According to research records reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon, Hamilton “owned scores of slaves” — some of them African but the rest Creole.
“Hamilton Brown owned several plantations over the years 1817 to about 1845,” the research reads. “According to the 1818 Almanac … he was the owner of Minard (128 slaves) which he must have acquired from its previous owner (John Bailie) in 1815 or later.”
What’s notable about these numbers is that they stand in stark contrast to the number of slaves that McConnell’s ancestors reportedly owned.
“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who said recently he opposes paying government reparations to the descendants of American slaves, has a family history deeply entwined in the issue: Two of his great-great-grandfathers were slave owners, U.S. census records show,” NBC News reported Monday.
“The two great-great-grandfathers, James McConnell and Richard Daley, owned a total of at least 14 slaves in Limestone County, Alabama — all but two of them female, according to the county ‘Slave Schedules’ in the 1850 and 1860 censuses.”
Despite this notable discrepancy — 128 slaves versus 14 slaves — for reasons that remain unclear, neither NBC nor its peers in the mainstream media — all of whom have enthusiastically been touting McConnell’s slave-owning ancestors — have, it would appear, ever run a single report on Harris’s equally disturbing slave-owning ancestors. Why?

Some believe the goal of the NBC’s “hit piece” was to imply that the Senate majority leader opposes reparations for slavery because he carries the racism of his ancestors in his heart.
Responding to this smear Tuesday, McConnell slyly pointed out that he’s in the same boat as Obama — both men oppose reparations, and both men’s ancestors owned slaves. The left in turn responded to this factually accurate retort by doubling down on their smears.
This is, as a reminder, the same left — as in both far-left activists and their media allies — that has shown an odd and seemingly partisan unwillingness to extend the same sort of criticism to Harris.
In fact, some among the left have outright denied that her ancestors owned slaves.
In a supposed “fact-check” of the claim that her ancestors did own slaves, the far-left “fact-checking” website Snopes falsely argued that the claim was “unproven.”
“[W]e have been unable to verify that a line of descent exists between the modern-day Harris family and the 19th-century slave owner,” the site wrote last week. “As such, the claim that an ancestor of Sen. Harris owned slaves in Jamaica remains unproven. If evidence emerges that verifies that line of descent, we will update this fact check accordingly.”
Snopes issued this false ruling despite admitting in its own piece that Harris’s own father — whom one would expect knows his own family history better than the leftists at Snopes — had written in his January op-ed that, yes, his family was descended from slave owners.

That Snopes would essentially accuse Harris’s own father of lying is stunning. So is the left’s unwillingness to hold the California senator (not to mention Obama) to the same standards as they’re holding McConnell.
