With the overwhelmingly negative media coverage of President Donald Trump, his accomplishments in office often don’t see much light when it comes to the nightly news, be it the economy or even environmental gains.
A recent Washington Post-ABC News poll showed that Trump’s approval rating just hit the highest point of his presidency, a surge being driven by the robust economy all but ignored by the media, and his environmental policies aren’t faring any better.
But Bruce Hrobak, the owner of Billy Bones Bait and Tackle in Port St. Lucie, Florida, appeared Tuesday on “Fox & Friends” to tout the positive effects these policies have had on his business.
Florida was beset with a “red tide” of toxic algae that was devastating his business and Hrobak, who is also a fishing captain who knows the local waterways well, was invited to the White House to attend an Environmental Leadership Summit.
“We’re joined today by Bruce Hrobak, Owner of Billy Bones Bait and Tackle in Port St. Lucie. A place I know very well, Florida,” the president said as he introduced Hrobak. “His business was devastated by toxic algae from Lake Okeechobee.”
The fisherman stole the show with his exuberant personality, complimenting Trump for his focus on the Florida Everglades — the president said earlier this year that his administration will seek $200 million in funding for the Army Corps Everglades restoration project.
“I’m just so grateful for all the work you’re doing, sir, and Everglades restoration,” he said. “You jumping into this environment brings my heart to warmth.”
Hrobak explained that the “Red tide” forced him to close his business “several days a week,” and that people were “frightened,” but things are now looking much better.
At the conclusion of his remarks at the White House, Hrobak enthusiastically shouted “Trump 2020” into the microphone, as the president looked on with a smile.
And Hrobak gives the president full credit, as he told the Fox News morning crew.
“With President Trump at the helm, not only is America getting great again, but he’s going to make our estuaries, our rivers, our water – everything better – the things he is doing, and done, are just helping America tremendously,” he said.
He also pushed back on the toxic resistance to the president seen in the media and around the nation.
“The president loves everybody and I just don’t get why people give him a hard time,” the business owner said. “He’s a great guy and I was proud and honored to meet him.”
Hrobak clearly left an impression on President Trump, who tweeted a quote from the fisherman Tuesday morning, while personally thanking him.
“‘With President Trump at the helm, not only is America getting great again, but he’s going to make our estuaries, our rivers, our water – everything better – the things he is doing, and done, are just helping America tremendously.’ Thank you to Bruce Hrobak @foxandfriends,” Trump tweeted.
