The problem with Democrats rushing to break the glass ceiling when it comes to the president of the United States is they seem to want the first women to be elected for little more than being a woman.
At least, that’s the impression one may get in a tweet from Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y.
Gillibrand is one of several women running to be the Democratic Party’s nominee to oppose President Trump in 2020, and she marked Independence Day by tweeting a photo of most of these women candidates.
The caption read: “Happy 243rd birthday, America! Seems like a great time to send a woman to the White House.”

No reason was offered on why any of these women would be an appropriate choice, and where there’s a void you can count on social media to fill it.
Jesse Kelly, a senior contributor at the online magazine The Federalist, apparently didn’t get the memo that humor is now outlawed in post-Obama America, especially in regard to old-fashioned gender stereotypes.
The Iraq War veteran and former Arizona GOP congressional candidate responded to Gillibrand’s tweet by asking: “Why? Is it dusty.”
As seen below, a social media user was quick to warn Kelly he’s “gonna pay for that.”
…before joining him in the hot water by noting that it was “freakin’ hilarious.”
Yikes! ?… but you’re gonna pay for that. Freakin’ hilarious!

The photo is from a Vogue article titled, “Madam President? Five Candidates on What It Will Take to Shatter the Most Stubborn Glass Ceiling.”
And what was definitely hilarious about it is that Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson was excluded and she wasn’t about to let the slight go without a response.
The spiritual consultant shared the same photo on Instagram, superimposing herself in the picture on the wall behind the other candidates.
“Happy July 4th! Other generations have done what they were called to do, and now it’s our generation’s time to do what we are called to do,” declared the caption. “The American revolution is an ongoing process, a continuous journey Into more and more expanded realms of possibility for everyone. It’s amazing when you dust off certain phases and reclaim them for their modern relevance. “Let freedom ring” is not just a cliche after all… #bigtruth.”
Amy Chozick, author of the Vogue piece, justified excluding Williamson by explaining in an interview that the magazine’s editors decided to focus on women already serving in elected office, The Hill reported.
Williams, the only other woman running, talks about being left out in the clip below.
Question: "Do you know why you weren't part of this [Vogue] profile about…the historic number of women running."

As for Kelly’s humor, it did not distract from the idea that the best person for the job should be elected, man or woman.
Let's send a woman, not because she's qualified but because she's a woman.
Go experiment in someone else's country and leave mine to the most qualified. https://t.co/yNV3uC1wZf

The interesting thing about Kelly’s tweet is there were just as many women laughing about it as men, proving that having the ability to laugh at ourselves is an important asset.
Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
As a woman, I could be offended. ?? But that’s too f’n funny! ??
