After being sentenced for the death of his three-month-old son, a father was surprised with a sucker punch from one of the boy’s relatives.
Indiana resident Kwin Boes was sentenced to 25 years for the murder of his son — 19 of which is to be spent in prison and another six will be sent in a work-release program. The sentence is the result of a plea deal Boes took.
Boes’ son, Parker, died from blunt-force head-trauma. As part of the plea deal, Boes pleaded guilty to the death of his infant son. The deal also stipulates that he needs to pay for his son’s funeral expenses.
Being escorted out of the courtroom in cuffs by deputies, Parker’s uncle, Jeremiah Matthew Hartley, was lying in wait for the killer.
Hartley made his punch count as Boes was hit with such force that his prison sandals flew off and blood splattered across the floor.
Deputies separated the two men and Hartley was taken away in cuffs. He is facing 179 days in jail for contempt. He is also facing a misdemeanor battery charge from the state.
“I ain’t even f*cking fighting you guys,” Hartley can be heard saying to deputies in video of the incident.
After seeing the same judge that sentenced Boes, Hartley turned to cameras to complain about his charges while deputies escorted him away.
“Bullsh*t. No bail no rights, no rights in this sh*t,” he said.

“He’s [Jeremiah] going through some things. He’s upset anyway,” Lisa Hartley, Parker’s grandmother, told WEVV about the incident. “That really upset him just to see him come out; I don’t know if he heard how much time he got or if he was just upset about his nephew. This is a horrible crime.”
Though she says she did not know her son planned to attack Boes, Hartley made clear that she does not care what happens to the man who took her grandson’s life.
“Parker was such a sweetheart,” she said of her grandson. “He smiled all the time. He was just a happy baby. He wasn’t even 3 months old yet.”
She added, “My grandson’s not coming back ever. I don’t care what happens to Kwin. I don’t care what happens to him ever.”
Mike Hartley, Parker’s grandfather, said he thinks Boes deserved a harsher sentence for his crime.
“I wish that the defendant and the court could’ve been in my shoes and had seen what I’d seen. To see this small baby lie there and fight for his life,” he said.
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to support Jeremiah Hartley. As of this writing, it has earned over 1000 dollars. It has a goal of 10000 dollars.
Many have been taking to social media to show support for Hartley.
“I didn’t see anything,” one Twitter user wrote in reply to a story about the assault.
Another said Boes’ sentence was too light.
“20 years isn’t enough. He should never see the light of day,” the user wrote.
Another replied to the assault by saying, “Poor guy, the uncle I mean, it would be hard to control yourself after someone killed your little nephew. My nephews are young adults & I can just tell you, it would take the spirit of God to restrain me because my flesh would want to beat the life out of someone that hurt them.”
