Melania Trump statue in hometown gets very mixed reaction: ‘It’s a Smurfette. It’s a disgrace’

A life-sized monument meant to honor Melania Trump has been erected near Sevnica, Slovenia, the hometown of America’s first lady.

The wooden monument was commissioned by American conceptual artist Brad Downey. It was carved out of a tree by local craftsman Ales Zupevc, who is known as Maxi.

The statue features the first lady wearing a bright blue dress while she waves a stumpy hand. Her face is the most bizarre part of all as it is a formless thing that seems ripped from an unproduced David Lynch (“Twin Peaks,” “Blue Velvet”) screenplay.

The outfit depicted on the statue is supposed to be based off of Melania Trump’s outfit she wore to her husband’s inauguration in 2017. The dress worn by Mrs. Trump at the inauguration was a chic powder blue Ralph Lauren.

The statue of Mrs. Trump has gotten very mixed reviews with many seeing it as more parody than homage.

“It doesn’t look anything like Melania. It’s a Smurfette. It’s a disgrace,” one resident told ITV about the statue.

“It’s not okay. It’s a disgrace. That’s what I have to say,” another resident said in reaction.

Nika, a 24-year-old architect, told AFP about the structure, “If the monument was meant to be a parody, then the artist has been successful.”

The only stipulation for the sculpture was reportedly that it be depicted with the same dress Mrs. Trump wore to her husband’s inauguration. Besides that, Downey gave the artist free reign and he claims he’s happy with the results.

He told AFP that the statue is “absolutely beautiful,” but he “can understand why people might think that this falls short as a description of her physical appearance.”

Leftists have been celebrating the bizarre statue saying its likeness is just what they see when they look at Mrs. Trump.

“The greatest statue ever made!! This is Melania Trump as if you didn’t already know. Uncanny!” one Twitter user wrote.

Another responded by saying, “I think it does her credit.”

A person like Melania Trump does deserve monuments in her honor. She has had quite a life and accomplished a lot, but this abstract statue probably isn’t what fans of the first lady have in mind when they think of a monument that captures the first lady’s beauty and experience.

Downey says there will be plenty more exposure for the monument in the future. It will be the subject of a documentary and an exhibition. Both are currently in the works, according to Downey.

Downey is an artist from Kentucky currently based in Berlin, according to his Instagram account.

Despite some rain, Mrs. Trump fought through the weather and looked as stunning as ever in a dress designed by Carolina Herrera. The dress popped with rainbow-clad stripes, a flared skirt and oversized-tie on one shoulder.
