The incident occurred in Portland, Oregon where multiple political protests were planned on Saturday. One protest was by the group The Proud Boys and the other was a counter protest of sorts by Antifa.

Ngo showed up to cover the Antifa event and video has gone viral showing the journalist being kicked and punched at the protest. He also had milkshakes and other items thrown at him. Ngo ended up going to the hospital as a result of his injuries.

“On way to hospital. Was beat on face and head multiple times in downtown in middle of street with fists and weapons. Suspects at large,” Ngo tweeted after the incident.

His face was clearly bloody and bruised in a video posted to his social media where he went into detail about the incident.

Portland Police got involved after the assault and advised people to clear the streets.

“PPB advising crowd to clear the streets. Throwing substances and objects at people constitutes harassment. If you participate in this behavior you are subject to arrest,” they tweeted.

They also tweeted that the political protest had turned into “a civil disturbance and unlawful assembly.”

“This is now a civil disturbance and unlawful assembly. Please disperse immediately,” they tweeted.

Police also said they had been informed that some of the milkshakes thrown at the event contained “quick-drying cement.”

“Police have received information that some of the milkshakes thrown today during the demonstration contained quick-drying cement. We are encouraging anyone hit with a substance today to report it to police,” they tweeted.

Ngo also said his camera equipment was stolen. Ngo had previously tweeted that he was “nervous” about covering the event.

“I am nervous about tomorrow’s Portland antifa rally. They’re promising ‘physical confrontation’ & have singled me out to be assaulted. I went on Tucker Carlson last year to explain why I think they’re doing this: They’re seeking meaning through violence,” he tweeted.

Many have called out the Antifa members for the incident, including some leftists like Jake Tapper.

The CNN host took to Twitter to call out the assaulters in the Ngo video and to call out Antifa for past assaults on journalists.

“Antifa regularly attacks journalists; it’s reprehensible,” Tapper tweeted. He added links to videos of other assaults carried out by the group.

“I’ve been warning: the left won’t stop at silencing free speech and journalism online. Antifa now brutally assaulted and robbing journalists out in the open. It’s open season on anyone to the right of Marx,” conservative comedian Steven Crowder tweeted about the incident.

Fox News contributor Dan Bongino asked people to help out Ngo, a man he described as a “warrior exposing Antifa thugs.”

“This guy has been a warrior exposing ANTIFA thugs and criminals for a long time. We need to help him out,” Bongino tweeted.
