Sean Hannity showed up in the Fox News studios early this morning to appear on “Fox & Friends,” perhaps anxious to talk about what he called “the greatest set-up Donald Trump ever made.”

He was talking about an interview Trump gave to ABC anchor George Stephanopolous on Wednesday that the liberal news media has subsequently tried to use in their latest “manufactured outrage” campaign against the President.

During the interview, Trump presented a hypothetical question about whether a government official should listen to information a foreign agent offers on an opponent, and if need be, report it to the FBI. More on that further below, but first, Hannity’s points are worth taking in.

“You know I call them the media mob, right?” Hannity explained.

“They lie to us for two years–conspiracy theories, a hoax. So, Donald Trump, if you’re outraged in the media over that, him saying, ‘I might want to listen and if need be, report to the FBI.’ If you’re outraged over that, then how could you not be outraged over Hillary Clinton literally empower a foreign agent who produced a dossier full of Russian lies, that was used to infiltrate our electoral process?  First, by influencing the American people, but more importantly they used a British foreign national, a spy. It was never verified, they used it then to spy on Americans … it’s far worse what Hillary Clinton did and they show no outrage in this fake media environment we live in.”

Hannity was correct in his assessment of the selective outrage that was performed throughout the night by liberal news hosts. If it was a “set-up” by Trump, they fell for it hook, line, and sinker:

As for Stephanopoulos’ interview with the President, the ABC anchor brought up Donald Trump Jr.’s testimony before Congress regarding a meeting that was set up in 2016 that was purported to have provided dirt on Hillary Clinton from the Russian government.

“Your son, Don Jr. is up before the Senate Intelligence Committee today. And again, he’s not charged with anything,” said Stephanopoulos.

The President was quick to defend his son.

“Somebody comes up and says, hey, I have information on your opponent, do you call the FBI?” Trump asked. “I’ll tell you what, I have seen a lot of things in my life. I don’t think in my whole life I’ve ever called the FBI.”

“Your campaign this time around, if foreigners, if Russia, if China or someone else offers you information on opponents should they accept it or should they call the FBI?” Stephanopoulos asked.

“I think maybe you do both. I think you might want to listen. There’s nothing wrong with listening. If somebody called from a country, Norway, we have information on your opponent … oh, I think I’d want to hear it.

“You want that kind of interference in our elections?” the reporter posed.

“It’s not an interference. They have information. I think I’d take it. If I thought there was maybe something wrong, I’d go maybe to the FBI. But if somebody comes up with oppo research … the FBI doesn’t have enough agents to take care of it. If you go and talk honestly to congressmen, they all do it, they always have, and that’s the way it is. It’s called oppo research.”

It’s worth having a look at Stephanopoulos’ report on the interview as presented on Good Morning America this morning, noting how the last comment by the President was left out, as well as ABC anchor’s fake outrage …
