In the midst of Wednesday’s House session and a debate on the merits of a bill, a Democrat from California created a stir with a bizarre low blow directed at a certain demographic on the Hill.

“Mr. Speaker, it is tiring to hear from so many sex-starved males on this floor talk about a woman’s right to choose,” said  Rep. Norma Torres slowly and deliberately, while waving her arms around.

A grumbling buzz filled the room emanating from the Republican side of the aisle. An objecting Republican, Rep. Ron Woodall of Georgia, was recognized from the dais to speak. “Mr. Speaker, I would just like to ask my friend if she would like to change her last statement,” Woodall offered.

“Mr. Speaker, if it pleases my colleague on the other side,” Torres replied in a clearly impudent fashion, “I will withdraw my statement about sex-starved males on the floor.”

Republicans “oppose language in the bill authored by House Democrats that would block the Trump administration from enforcing a rule that protects health care providers that refuse to participate in services, such as abortion, that go against their beliefs,” according to Roll Call.

Immediately preceding the comment by Torres, Rep. Ross Spano of Florida had his say about language in H.R. 2740, as written by Democrats. “The legislation before us not only strips pro-life provisions, but it includes language that, in fact, undermines efforts to promote life.”

Awareness-starved lefties on social media seized on the barb by Torres as a wonderful thing, as Torres managed to not only launch a baseless insult toward Republicans but also to express her disdain for the First Amendment at one fell swoop.

The breech of House etiquette occurred during a discussion of H.R. 2740, an appropriations bill for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education. Torres, is a member of the House Rules Committee, so she clearly knew her attack was a violation. By rule, members cannot personally impugn their colleagues on the floor.

Although the comment was struck from the House record, it will forever remain in the cloud …

And about that pesky First Amendment implication, Mollie Hemingway had this to say …
