In 2017 Hollywood actress Pauley Perette announced that she would be departing the hit CBS series “NCIS” the following year but refused to explain why. All she would say was that all the rumors about her departure were false.
Look:
So it is true that I am leaving NCIS…
There have been all kinds of false rumors as to why (NO I DON’T HAVE A SKIN CARE LINE… pic.twitter.com/gugM2a2ckT— Pauley Perrette (@PauleyP) October 4, 2017
Almost two full years later, on June 7, the actress finally opened up about the reason why she’d left the show. Responding to all the “NCIS” fans who keep pleading with her to return to the award-winning drama, the actress posted a Twitter thread accusing the series’ lead star, Mark Harmon, of hitting her.
“NO I AM NOT COMING BACK! EVER! (Please stop asking?),” she wrote. “I am terrified of Harmon and him attacking me. I have nightmares about it. I have a new show that is SAFE AND HAPPY! You’ll love it!#HappyPlace Love y’all!”
“THIS happened To my crew member and I fought like hell to keep it from happening again! And then I was physically assaulted for saying NO!? and I lost my job.”
The second tweet contained images of a woman’s bruised eye.

You think I didn’t expect blow back? You got me wrong. THIS happened To my crew member and I fought like hell to keep it from happening again! To protect my crew! And then I was physically assaulted for saying NO!?and I lost my job. pic.twitter.com/PYwJcH95Mi

Are these allegations true, though? Many in the public don’t seem to believe her.
Look:
It’s simple folks, it’s a ploy to get attention and market her new show. Very poor

She’s known for these online meltdowns, guys…
— Dana Jo Graslie (@JoGraslie) June 7, 2019
She’s a drama queen. This is blown way out of proportion. The show is doing fine without her.
— nargram (@nar5593) June 7, 2019
You are such a drama queen! We do not want you back on NCIS, the shows are better than ever. Do not count me in to watch your new show.
— Annabel (@annemsantee) June 8, 2019
Stop your drama and tell the truth. No one will believe anything you post if you keep stretching the truth.

And the melodrama continues…I’m detecting a pattern here
— Dan Herman (@Badger_Dan_H) June 7, 2019
Why all the animosity? Because she has a history of making outlandish claims and/or exaggerating the truth one minute, but acting like everything’s fine the next.
During her last month on “NCIS” in May of 2018, for instance, she again took to Twitter — this time to tweet vaguely about certain “crime” and “multiple physical assaults” that had allegedly occurred on set and speak of a conspiracy to silence her …
Look:
I refused to go low, that’s why I’ve never told publicly what happened. But there are tabloid articles out there that are telling total lies about me. If you believe them? Please leave me alone. You clearly don’t know me. (Sorry guys, had to be said)
— Pauley Perrette (@PauleyP) May 13, 2018
Maybe I’m wrong for not “spilling the beans” Telling the story, THE TRUTH. I feel I have to protect my crew, jobs and so many people. But at what cost? I.don’t know. Just know, I’m trying to do the right thing, but maybe silence isn’t the right thing about crime. I’m… Just… ?
— Pauley Perrette (@PauleyP) May 13, 2018
There is a “machine’ keeping me silent, and feeding FALSE stories about me. A very rich, very powerful publicity “machine”. No morals, no obligation to truth, and I’m just left here, reading the lies, trying to protect my crew. Trying to remain calm. He did it.
— Pauley Perrette (@PauleyP) May 13, 2018
I’ve been supporting ant-bullying programs forever. But now I KNOW because it was ME! If it’s school or work, that you’re required to go to? It’s horrifying. I left. Multiple Physical Assaults. I REALLY get it now. Stay safe. Nothing is worth your safety. Tell someone.
— Pauley Perrette (@PauleyP) May 13, 2018
CBS released a statement shortly thereafter and the issue disappeared.
“Pauley Perrette had a terrific run on NCIS and we are all going to miss her,” the network said. “Over a year ago, Pauley came to us with a workplace concern. We took the matter seriously and worked with her to find a resolution. We are committed to a safe work environment on all our shows.”
In response, Perrette tweeted this:
I want to thank my studio and network CBS They have always been so good to me and always had my back.
— Pauley Perrette (@PauleyP) May 16, 2018
Some believe Perette’s claims may simply involve Harmon’s dog. According to a story published by The Wrap around the time of her departure, two years earlier Harmon had brought his dog on set, and his dog had then proceeded to bite a crew member.
“Many ‘NCIS’ viewers started pointing out months ago that stars Pauley Perrette and Mark Harmon were no longer appearing together on screen: They didn’t even share a stage for Perrette’s final episode last week,” the outlet reported.
“The reason goes back to an incident in 2016 in which Harmon’s dog bit a member of the crew, requiring 15 stitches, and Perrette objected when the dog was allowed to return to the set afterward, according to multiple individuals familiar with the situation.”
The fact that she may now be conflating Harmon’s dog biting someone with Harmon physically abusing her isn’t sitting well with many “NCIS” fans, especially given all the underlying facts:
Pauley. Love you as an actor but you just mislead millions with this post. It was Mark’s rescue dog, who went after another member of the crew -not you- from all the reports I read at the time. You asked MH not to bring the dog back to set, he refused, you got pissy & left.
— Suis 2A 1A ??? (@Suisan67) June 7, 2019
@PauleyP …then he was in his trailer all day. You got upset because you felt the dog should be removed permanently from the set. Mark tried repeatedly to make peace with you, you refused. You left the show, weren’t fired…. 3 of ?
— Dayton T. Uphold (@DaytonTUphold) June 8, 2019
Nothing would have happened! As a law enforcement officer, I will tell all of you plain and simple. The way it reads is that the crew member took the dog and started to play rough and aggressive with it, the dog bit him, and the crew member said that he is the one that played to

If you were physically assaulted you need to show proof other than your vague comments. This is why women aren’t believed. Your lying right now. This guy was bitten by his dog not assaulted by Harmon.
— Cindy santos (@Cindysa83522866) June 8, 2019
Ok but you should really specify that it was a DOG and NOT Mark Harmon. You keep implying that Mark attacked you…
