‘Nasty’ comes up again as Piers Morgan scores UK interview with Trump, gifts him a Churchill hat

Piers Morgan was able to bag an exclusive interview with President Donald Trump on Good Morning Britain, and Morgan presented him the Lock & Co black hat made famous by Winston Churchill.

The gift being appropriate as Trump will commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day today with Britain and other allies.

The president tried the hat on, while commenting on his hair, though it will need to be resized as he told Morgan it was “a little big.”

He also said it looked better on Churchill.

Morgan asked Trump who had the better hair, him or Boris Johnson, who’s expected to win next week’s Conservative leadership race?

He followed that up by asking who is the “British Trump,” naming Johnson, the front-runner to become Britain’s next prime minister, and Brexit party leader Nigel Farage as his choices.

The president was diplomatic in his reply, not wanting to influence the outcome of who will be the U.K.’s next leader.

“I don’t want to say, I don’t want to destroy anybody’s career,” Trump replied, with a laugh. “But they’re good people.”

The interview took place inside Churchill’s War Rooms in Westminster, according to the Daily Mail. Noting that they shared “similarities, Trump paid tribute to Churchill, who lead England through it’s darkest hour in World War Two.

“He’s right up there. He would certainly be a hero,” the president said.

“He was able to handle pressure very well. Hitler was unstoppable at the time – he was going through countries like cheese,” Trump added. “He was calling Roosevelt saying: ‘You gotta get in, you gotta get in.’ He was a great man who reacted so well under the gun, under pressure. There are not many people like that.”

Other topics that came up included climate change, which is a big issue in the U.K.

“I believe there is a change in weather and that it changes both ways,” a skeptical Trump said “Don’t forget, it used to be called global warming, that wasn’t working, then it was called climate change, now it’s actually called extreme weather.”

He told Morgan that Prince Charles spoke with him on the issue.

“We were going to have a 15 minute chat and it turned into an hour and a half,” said Trump, the estimate clearly a sarcastic over exaggeration, not that the media cared to take note. “He did most of the talking.”

Trump also addressed the claims in the media that Prince Harry tried to avoid him at Buckingham Palace over the controversy over whether Trump called his wife, Meghan Markle, “nasty.”

“No, no, no, just the opposite,” he told Morgan. “In fact, he spent a lot of time talking to Ivanka and talking to my family. I went up – he couldn’t have been nicer. Couldn’t have been nicer. I think he’s great.”

“I congratulated him and I think he’s a terrific guy,” Trump added. “The Royal Family is really nice.”

“Did he say: ‘Come on – do you think my wife’s nasty?” Morgan asked.

“We didn’t talk about it…I was going to because it was so falsely put out there,” Trump said. “And when you see that transcript and you see, it’s the exact opposite of what they said.”

As for Markle calling him “divisive” and a “misogynist,” Trump again clarified that he did not call her “nasty” — the term was used to describe the comments.

“She was nasty to me. And that’s OK for her to be nasty,” he said. “It’s not good for me to be nasty to her and I wasn’t.”

“‘You know what? She’s doing a good job, I hope she enjoys her life… I think she’s very nice,” he would add, once again showing that he holds no malice toward Markle.

President Trump said Monday’s state banquet hosted by Queen Elizabeth was one of the highlights of his life, according to the Daily Mail — he said his late mother, Mary, “loved” the British monarch and “would have been proud.
