Lou Dobbs, Ed Rollins go off after Mueller fiasco: ‘Where are Republicans? … Missing in action, totally’

While the entire liberal media responded to special counsel Robert Mueller’s explosive statement Wednesday by beating the drums for impeachment, Fox Business Network political commentator Lou Dobbs responded by wondering were the hell Senate Republicans were.

“I’m going to say this is as sweetly and gently as I can: Where are the Republicans in the Senate, and why isn’t there a response to the mendacity, the viciousness, the vileness of the Democrats as they attack this president!?” he asked Wednesday evening on FBN’s  “Lou Dobbs Tonight.”

As of Thursday morning, Senate Majority Mitch McConnell had neither said nor tweeted anything about the left’s growing push for impeachment. In his defense, he’s been busy making sure every single one of President Donald Trump’s judicial nominees are confirmed into office.

Listen to Dobbs below:

His guest, Republican campaign strategist Ed Rollins, chimed in by noting that, though it’d be “easy to defend” the president — in fact, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has already posited one great defense — he didn’t see any Republicans doing that Wednesday.

“Well, I watch TV all day today, and they were missing in action totally,” he said. “There was nobody out there basically defending this president, and it was easy to defend. This was the most outrageous thing I’ve seen in my 50 years around politics.”

“And at the end of the day, just because Democrats don’t have the guts to move forward on impeachment, because it’ll cost them and cost them dearly, they’re going to basically drag this thing out with their six or seven investigating committees in the House and try and find stuff that’s not there,” he continued. “And it’s time for it all to go away.”

He was wrong about one thing. It’s not Democrats in general who lack the guts to impeach but rather Democrat congressional leaders. In statements delivered Wednesday afternoon, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer didn’t even use the word “impeachment” once.

Look:

Meanwhile, practically everybody else in the Democrat Party is calling for impeachment.

With the microphone back in his hand, metaphorically speaking, Dobbs then asked Rollins whether Republicans will ever crawl out from under their rock and “stand up with this president.”

“I certainly hope so, and I’ll lose all faith in the Republican Party — and it’s pretty small at this point in time — if they don’t stand up,” Rollins replied, before dinging congressional Democrat leaders again, including House Judiciary Committee chair Jerry Nadler, for their cowardice.

“Equally as important, gutless Democrats I think are having a hard time with all of this, and they realize the consequences of the election,” he said.” The speaker is all over the place today trying to try to make sure, and Nadler — he’s been wanting to do this for months now — is still not being brave and courageous. They want a roadmap handed to them that says basically here’s how to indict him, here’s how to get rid of him, and there’s not one.”

In his own statement Wednesday, Nadler also avoided the word “impeachment.” Then when questioned by a reporter about impeachment, he replied, “We’ll make decisions as they seem indicated.”

Listen:

“The radical Dems are just, they’re beneath contempt,” Dobbs said next, continuing the discussion. “I mean, they have become something. They are the party of hate. … What they’re doing is unconscionable, and I cannot for the life of me figure out where the national left-wing media is, irrespective their partisan differences. They know what this party is doing, and their purposes.”

What the party appears to be doing is beating the drums of impeachment — but not for the purposes of actually impeaching the president, who’s done nothing wrong, but rather to gin up anti-Trump animosity going into the pivotal 2020 presidential election.

Dobbs concluded the discussion by asking Rollins for his opinion on President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign’s official response to “Mueller’s sanctimonious nonsense,” as he put it. The response was posted roughly an hour after Mueller’s no-questions-allowed presser concluded:

Seen above, the statement called for putting the costly and ultimately unfruitful Russia investigation to rest and focusing attention instead on the new probe into the origins of the original investigation.

“Now it’s time to turn to the origins of the Russia hoax and get to the bottom of why the Trump campaign was spied on by the Obama-era DOJ and FBI,” the Trump campaign said in a statement Wednesday, after Mueller’s press conference,” the statement read.

“Anyone who is for transparency, constitutional civil liberties, and the rule of law should want to know why human sources, wiretapping, and unmasking were used to infiltrate a presidential campaign.”

Rollins liked the sound of that: “All I can say is, I’m in,” he said. “That’s a perfect statement. Actually, it’s very truthful, and it needs to be put across this country.”
