Instant viral gold! ‘I can’t decide if that is the worst first pitch ever in the history of baseball, or the best’

It’s safe to say that rapper 50 Cent is no longer the ranking member of the “Bad Ceremonial First Pitch” club.

After all, he missed the cameraman!

The Chicago White Sox invited its Employee of the Month to throw out the first pitch Monday in a game against the Kansas City Royals, and the outcome was so bad that it turned out to be great — as in going viral.

Not so great for the ill-fated photographer standing well off to the side of the woman as she hurled the baseball.

“I can’t decide if that is the worst first pitch ever in the history of baseball, or the best pitch, the best first pitch in baseball history,” the announcer declared, as his colleague chuckled.

“That’s hysterical,” the partner chimed in.

The only thing missing in the scene was Bob Uecker saying, “Just a bit outside.”

The best part about the incident may have been the reaction of the “catcher,” who is actually pitcher Evan Marshall. As the baseball hits the photographer, who bails out, running for cover, Marshall throws his arms up over his head in mock horror.

Even better, the woman did not let the errant throw spoil her good time. She was still thrilled to be there, giving Marshall a hug as they posed for the traditional photo that follows the ceremonial first pitch.

Flexing the muscle in her throwing arm while laughing, she was proud of how bad a throw it was — knowing at this point, of course, that the cameraman was okay.

The irony is that Monday’s event was commemorating the five-year anniversary of 50 Cent’s really bad, awful first pitch at a New York Mets game.

The White Sox shared the actual photograph snapped just as the ball was about to be released from the woman’s hand, along with the brilliant caption: “Life comes at you pretty fast.”

The photographer, identified online as Darren Georgia, was interviewed afterwards and was in good spirits, taking his newfound celebrity status in stride.

As for the game, storms were expected and it was suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning with the score tied at 1 apiece. The game was completed Tuesday, with Chicago winning 2-1.
