CNN host Chris Cuomo inspired a lot of criticism on Wednesday for his strange reaction to a video posted by NRA TV about a rape survivor.

Kimberly Corban tells her harrowing story in the video and explains why she is now a strong supporter of people being armed in the name of self defense.

Corban says she was raped after she moved off campus during her college years. She recalls waking up suffocating one night.

“Shut up,” a man told her.

“For the next two hours, I thought I was going to die,” she recalls.

Corban says the experience motivated her to take more action to defend herself from predators.

“Now I’m a mother of two and if that predator or anyone else tries to harm me or my family, they have to come through my firearm first,” says Corban. “I will never be unarmed or utterly vulnerable ever again. The only reason I can say that is because the NRA fought for my rights before I ever thought I needed them.”

While the promotional video would likely elicit sympathy in most people and perhaps make them think a bit more about owning a firearm, Cuomo had a very different response.

The CNN host responded to the video on Twitter by saying, “Only in America.” If you know anything about Cuomo’s position on the Second Amendment, it’s not hard to read between the lines and see the slimy condescension on display. Cuomo is one of many mainstream media hosts who believes in restrictions on the Second Amendment and often uses national tragedies like school shootings to push his leftist views.

Cuomo’s simple, but weird response did not sit well with many people on Twitter. It was seen as disrespectful and ignorant.

Corban herself responded and asked Cuomo if he wanted to discuss the matter further.

“Looks like you forgot to tag me. Care to chat about this?” she wrote.

Others also felt Cuomo was being dismissive to Corban’s experience.

“Yes, @ChrisCuomo, in America we believe women should be able to defend themselves. And we know the #SecondAmendment guarantees our right to do so,” tweeted Liz Cheney in response.

“The View” co-host Meghan McCain blasted Cuomo and other media hosts for treating female experiences as a “joke.”

“Kim Corban is a rape survivor who is now choosing to tell her story & arm and protect herself. I think a real question is why so many men in the media always treat conservative women like our values, life experiences and perspective is some kind of joke. Like we are valued less,” she wrote.

Fox News’ Janice Dean wrote in response, “You might want explain this tweet a little better to those of us who’ve actually had to face predators in our own homes and defend ourselves without a big strong man like yourself?”

“Now that’s a take,” added Daily Wire editor in chief Ben Shapiro.

Cuomo ended up responding to McCain’s tweet by saying she had his “intentions wrong.”

“Read what I tweeted. You have my intentions wrong. A survivor story and the right to bear arms is not where we are stuck…We can’t get past this deadlock on all or none to make reasonable changes to help reduce deadly violence.  Happy to talk if you have more questions,” he wrote.

He later added a half-hearted apology.

“I am sorry for confusion. I take the issue and the stories of violence seriously. Muscles don’t stop bullets, as you know. Again, I have always been clear about the right to own and what needs to be improved. Apologize if you were misled,” he tweeted.

Wow. Amazing that the arrogance and condescension exists not only in his original tweet, but also in what is supposed to be the apology for that tweet.

Cuomo also tried to backpedal later by saying he is a firearm owner himself.

Nobody was misled and nothing was twisted, Cuomo. Your words speak for themselves. Whatever you believe about the Second Amendment and a person’s right to own a firearm, attaching your beliefs to the video of a rape survivor is wrong. Cuomo is essentially using this woman’s experience as a way to promote his leftist views. And if he doesn’t disagree with with Corban owning a firearm, why comment on the video at all?

Cuomo’s reaction to Corban’s story was disgusting, but his apology was even worse.
