Fox News host Chris Wallace believes Attorney General William Barr is going out of his way to protect the interests of President Donald Trump.
Appearing on “America’s Newsroom” to react to Bill Hemmer’s Friday interview with Barr, Wallace noted that Barr seems to be the president’s inside man.

“What really comes across to me most of all is that for two years Donald Trump sat there and said I don’t have an attorney general. I don’t have somebody out there looking for and protecting my interests. He clearly has that now with Bill Barr,” said Wallace.
The Fox News host continued, “Not saying he’s not right in everything he says, but he clearly is protecting this president and advocating his point of view on a lot of these issues.”
In Hemmer’s extensive interview with Barr, the attorney general at one point went after Democrats who have accused him of being in contempt after he refused to testify before the House Judiciary Committee.
“I think it’s largely being made to try to discredit me partly because they may be concerned about the outcome of a review of what happened during the election,” Barr said.
Barr testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on the Mueller report, but refused to go before the House as he would have been asked questions by staff, rather than just members of Congress.
Wallace also expressed in his reaction that he was skeptical about whether Barr told the truth when he previously testified about not knowing Mueller’s reaction to Barr’s summary of the collusion investigation — it was revealed later that Mueller called Barr to express disappointment in the public summary.

“He [Barr] took a very lawyerly and very precise approach. It was only afterwards that we found out that, in fact, Mueller had called him the day after he issued the conclusions and said that he wasn’t happy with it,” said Wallace.
He added, “I’m not a lawyer. Bill Barr is a very accomplished lawyer. He can certainly make a case. I think there are other lawyers who would say [that] whether he lied or not, he certainly was not forthcoming.”
Wallace also theorized that Trump is in a much better situation with Barr as attorney general than if Jeff Sessions had remained in the position.
“I suspect that as President Trump, who probably has watched some of this interview himself, is saying: ‘Finally no Jeff Sessions, Bill Barr instead,'” said Wallace.
While Wallace’s words about Barr and Trump could be construed as negative, the Fox News host had nothing but praise for Hemmer.
Wallace said Hemmer did a “hell of a job and squeezed the sponge dry getting everything that Bill Barr was prepared to say.”
Hemmer did do a great job. He got clear answers from Barr on just about every hot topic surrounding investigations into the president. What’s unfortunate is that Barr’s words don’t seem to actually matter to a left that is hungry for the end of Trump’s presidency, even after the Mueller report came up with zilch after wasting over two years and millions of tax payer dollars.
