It will be fascinating to see poll numbers now for Alabama Senator Doug Jones after voters hear that he reportedly told Dem. State Rep. John Rogers he agreed with his appalling remarks last week on abortion saying that unwanted kids are either killed now or later.

Rogers claimed that Jones called him and said he agreed with him, but then called again saying that he was furious because of the impact it was having on his re-election campaign.

On Monday, Rogers was a guest on the Talk 99.5 “Matt & Aunie” show to discuss the things he said on the floor of the Alabama State House that quickly raised his profile to national prominence.

“He called me twice,” Rogers said about the phone conversations he had with Jones. “He told me, ‘John, I know you’re right but I have to come out against you.’ I said, ‘OK, fine, if it’s going to help your campaign, do that.’ That’s the kind of guy I am.”

Such a sweetheart.

Rogers said that Jones called him back a second time, but that time things were “heated.”

Repeating the Senator’s bluster, Rogers said … “John, John, John, be quiet — shut up. You’re killin’ me, you’re killin’ me.”

“He even said I don’t speak for Alabamians,” said Rogers. “I never said I spoke for Alabamians. I speak for my district.”

Rogers said that he himself got upset at that point. “You don’t chastise me, holler at me like that. He issued an apology for me. I told Doug Jones, I said, ‘bye.’ I’m not talking to you, we don’t have to talk anymore. Because I don’t appreciate that … you don’t chastise me … hollering and shouting because I’m hurting your re-election. It’s bigger than re-election, what I was talking about.

“Doug Jones was a good friend of mine. I said ‘was,’ and that’s how I feel about it right now.”

Last week, arguing for the pro-abortion side in opposition to a pro-life bill on the floor that easily passed, Rogers said, “Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later.”

Of course, the uproar was deafening, and if Dems nationwide were hesitant to condemn him for Rogers’ remarks, they were sure to go to ground in order to not have to voice their opinions. Sen. Jones did not have the option of burrowing into his hidey hole since he is running a re-election campaign in a traditionally conservative state. Jones barely pulled out a victory in a special election against Roy Moore when Moore, shortly before the election, was suddenly faced with unsubstantiated accusations of impropriety from decades earlier.

Notably, Rogers also said last week that Donald Trump Jr. should have been aborted because “he’s retarded or crazy.”
