As former President Barack Obama’s second term was coming to a close, it was clear that his legacy and how he would be remembered was very important to him, which is where Hillary Clinton comes in play.
Going all the way back to the 2008 Democratic presidential primary, their personal relationship has always been awkward, and a new book that details Obama’s reaction to her losing the 2016 election to President Donald Trump suggested there’s more trouble in progressive paradise, as White House counselor Kellyanne Conway noted.
More trouble in paradise:
Former President Barack Obama was unhappy with Hillary Clinton and her failed “soulless campaign” in 2016, saying he saw her loss as a “personal insult.” https://t.co/RHsbFnWKwR

Confident his enduring image stood a better chance with the failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, who would likely “continue his policies and cement his biggest achievements,” as New York Times Chief White House Correspondent Peter Baker wrote, the man seen as a messiah on the left took Clinton’s loss as a “personal insult.”
That’s according to Baker’s updated book “Obama: The Call of History.”
Not only that, Obama felt Clinton ran a “soulless campaign” in 2016, as the president distracted himself on election night by watching the movie “Dr. Strange.”
“[T]his stings,” he reportedly said, after Hillary crashed and burned.
Originally released in July 2017, the book has been updated with new reporting that includes the former president’s reaction to the 2016 election.
In effect, according to Baker, Obama felt that the American people turned on him — the big secret here is that outside of a slobbering media and adoring low information Democrats, there were millions of Americans who were never with him.
Leading up to the election, Obama thought there was “no way Americans would turn on him,” and that with Clinton, who the media all but guaranteed to win, “[h]is legacy, he felt, was in safe hands,” according to the Washington Examiner.
No fan of Trump, the former president was in disbelief that the American people “decided to replace him with a buffoonish showman whose calling cards had been repeated bankruptcies, serial marriages and racist dog whistles,” the book details.
After meeting Trump, Obama allegedly told former adviser Ben Rhodes his successor “peddles in bullsh*t,” prompting Rhodes to liken Trump to a character right out of the book “Huckleberry Finn.”
“Maybe that’s the best we can hope for,” Obama reportedly said.
True or not, he was smart enough to know his legacy didn’t stand much of a chance with the new president — his signature achievement, the disastrous Obamacare law, holds on by a thread today, thanks in large part to the actions of the late Sen. John McCain.
Ironically, Obama is said to have seen himself like the character Michael Corleone in the classic mobster movie, “The Godfather,” thinking that he “almost got out” of office untouched.
And Hillary Clinton knew she had failed to live up to Obama’s expectations, according to Baker.
“I’m sorry for letting you down,” she allegedly told Obama in a late-night call.
“While Clinton had lost, so had he,” Baker wrote, according to the Daily Mail. “The country that had twice elected Barack Hussein Obama as its president had now chosen as his successor a man who had questioned the very circumstances of his birth.”
Here’s a sampling of the reaction on Twitter, which suggests that a Clinton-Obama deathmatch would be highly entertaining.
