Trump-supporting NFL draftee apologized for these ‘insensitive’ political tweets after complaints from fans

The NFL draft is always a stressful time for sports fans. Teams can make questionable picks and an entire season can be determined by who builds the strongest roster.

While many fans argue the stats of players, political positions are never a thing that really matters. After all, who cares which way they vote if they can make good moves on the field?

Some sensitive San Francisco 49ers fans care about just that. They are taking issue with the team drafting Nick Bosa, who was previously a pass rusher for Ohio State, because he has said some right-leaning things in the past, including that he supports President Donald Trump.

Months before the draft, past political tweets on Bosa’s account were deleted.

One tweet called Colin Kaepernick, the former quarterback for the 49ers who is most famous for kicking off national anthem protests in the NFL, a “clown.” Another referred to Beyonce’s music as “complete trash.”

In addition to the tweets, Bosa has said positive things about the president in interviews.

In one, the athlete said he is a “big fan” fan of Donald Trump because “he brings a charisma that no other candidate has [had] in my lifetime.”

Bosa had also liked and retweeted many tweets in support of Trump and conservative causes.

Bosa explained to ESPN that the right-leaning tweets were deleted because he suspected he may end up playing for the 49ers.

“I had to [delete them],” he said. “There is a chance I might end up in San Francisco.”

One would think Bosa’s politics would have nothing to do with his professional life — unless he dragged them onto the field like Kaepernick — but liberal fans are not happy with the young athlete being drafted.

You can see one interview where Bosa is open about his support for Trump below:

The same Twitter account that reposted the interview has been sharing Bosa’s old political tweets.

Jemele Hill, who previously worked for ESPN and infamously called the president a “white supremacist,” tweeted a photo of an angry Cleveland Cavaliers fan and wrote in response to Bosa being drafted, “So my 49ers took Nick Bosa …”

Another user actually called Bosa “homophobic” and a “racist.”

“@49ers drafted racist and homophobic [Nick Bosa],” the user tweeted.

“We’re not going to be surprised here, are we? We know what America “stands for” already. They are just showing their b.s. in much plainer view,” wrote another user.

Another responded, “@jcpenney is Proud Sponsor of Nick Bosa Who Followed White Nationalist Accounts and Likes Racist, Homophobic, Sexist & Islamophobia Posts.”

Bosa himself apologized on Friday for being “insensitive” in past tweets.

“I definitely made some insensitive decisions throughout my life and I’m just excited to be here with a clean slate,” Bosa told the press while being officially welcomed to his new team in a press conference. “I’m sorry if I hurt anybody. I definitely didn’t intend for that to be the case.

He also revealed that his agent chose which tweets to delete, not him.

A specific tweet Bosa answered for was one calling Colin Kaepernick a “clown.” He apologized for sharing the thought.

“It’s not like I’m saying his stance and what he was doing, that’s not what I was talking about at all,” Bosa said. “It was a specific thing that happened, and me as a young kid, a thought popping into my head, and boom, I decided to tweet it out. Bad decision.”

Welcome to 2019 where you have to apologize for being a conservative if you want to get a job.
