Not even Anderson Cooper believes Biden asked Obama NOT to endorse him, and it just gets worse from there

Former Vice President Joe Biden announced his candidacy for presidency Thursday by trotting out a near-endless stream of lies about everything from the horrific Charlottesville incident of 2017 to former President Barack Obama’s refusal to endorse him.

Regarding the Charlottesville incident, the former VP falsely accused President Donald Trump of referring to the “Unite the Right” Nazis as “fine people.” And regarding Obama’s refusal to endorse him, Biden told the media that he’d asked the former president to not endorse him.

“I asked President Obama not to endorse. …  Whoever wins this nomination should win it on their own merits,” he said Thursday morning outside an Amtrak station in Delaware.

Listen:

His campaign team repeated this lie later Thursday on MSNBC.

“The vice president actually asked the president not to endorse,” Biden’s deputy campaign manager, Kate Bedingfield, said to an MSNBC host. “He wants to make his own case. He is running on an incredibly strong message of wanting to restore the soul of the nation.”

While both lies were glaring, the second one was ridiculous — so much so that even CNN host Anderson Cooper, an openly gay man who aligns strongly with Democrats, found it laughable.

“Does it make any sense that Biden would ask President Obama not to endorse him?” he asked in incredulity Thursday evening on “Anderson Cooper 360.” “Frankly I understand why President Obama would not want to endorse anybody at this stage but it does seem hard to fathom.”

He’s not the only one in disbelief.

Look:

Reports suggest the former president is waiting to endorse a candidate because he wants the candidates to first present their case to the public and win the Democrat nomination.

“[H]e is unlikely to endorse him or anyone else until the Democratic candidates have a chance to make their cases directly to the voters,” CNBC reported Thursday, citing inside sources.

Speaking with Cooper, former White House communications director Jen Psaki seemed to hint at the same thing, telling the host she doesn’t expect an endorsement anytime soon.

“I would be surprised if he endorsed anyone this year or endorsed anyone in the primary early next year. I think Joe Biden knows that and has long known that,” she said.

So why did he and his team tell such a whopper of a lie? And why did Cooper, after admitting that Biden’s claim is “hard to fathom,” then conjure up a conspiracy theory to explain it?

“It’s very possible that Biden blurted out in a conversation with President Obama, ‘I just want you to know, I don’t expect — I don’t want you to endorse me.’ Not that the president was about to or anything,” he said in a clear-cut attempt to excuse the former VP’s clear-cut lie.

Listen:

Fox News host Sean Hannity was far more critical.

“Does anyone actually believe that? Does anyone actually believe that Barack Obama was all set to endorse him and then Joe stopped him?” he asked Thursday night on “Hannity.”

“Well, let not your heart be troubled, Joe, because the big, coveted endorsement is already rolling in, like from conspiracy TV darling disgraced attorney Michael Avenatti.”

True.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

“Oh, and Biden bragging saying all these foreign leaders are begging me to save the country and the world. Really? Getting a little messiah complex?” the host continued.

That claim by the former VP also appears to be a lie.

“I get calls from people all over the world — world leaders are calling me — and they’re almost begging me to do this, to save the country, save the world,” he reportedly said during a conference call Wednesday with top donors and supporters.

“Anyway, remember, Biden enters the race already trying to fend off scandal after scandal,” Hannity continued. “Multiple women have accused him of inappropriate touching, kissing, touching, actual video footage of Biden’s disturbing touching antics. Doesn’t this alone immediately disqualify in the eyes of the Democratic Party? If Biden was a Republican, what would they be saying?”

“The double standard is on full display,” he concluded.

Listen:

According to conservative commentator and Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich, earlier this year Obama’s former chief of staff, Jim Messina, who served from 2009 to 2011, said that the former president didn’t intend to endorse anyone until after the Democrat primary elections.

This means what Biden said wasn’t just a lie — it was a bald-faced lie. Shame.
